Locking Keys In Car

well, i had an unfornature incidednt this weekend where my keys were stolen :(

now... have a spare set...
they were in the car :(

now how long do u think it took old mate to brake into my car so i could grab my other set?

mind you this is a BA Falcon, w/factory alarm

I'd say between 15 and 30 seconds if you used a "master key" and threw it through the rear quarter glass window and opened the back door and retrieved the spare set of keys. (Read "MASTER KEY" as a house brick......)

If you didn't use a "master key", I wouldn't hazard a guess as I've never had to break into my car and wouldn't know where to start.

never tried myself but i would have a guess and say around 5-8 seconds probably.
why have the spare keys in the car?

spares were only in the car by fluke that i had thatday had the car in the ford dealership getting a new ac unit fitted

so you put the wire in the key hole and it poped up? my dads car goes off when he tries to open the door with his key

true story, happened to me about a year ago...
I locked my keys in my BA once. (I opened the boot to load some shoping in, then slammed the boot, realised my keys had fallen in and the doors were still locked)

Called Ford assist after about an hour an NRMA Bloke turns up, "wire coathanger" in hand.

"want to time me?" he asked as he walked up to my car
"OK" I said "tell me when to start.."
"too late, I've already unlocked it" he said walking back to his truck.
took him all of about 5 seconds.

Reached in and popped the boot and grabbed my keys.

"NEVER LEAVE ANYTHING VALUABLE IN YOUR BA" was his warning. Oh and Commodores were no better according to him.

Locks only keep honest people out

Reminds me when my brother locked his keys in his VN. My brother rang up some guy to get them out and was ****ed off it was going to cost $100.

I said wait till you see how long it takes to open it and then you will be ****ed off.

$100 for 5secs work. I wonder what the hourly rate would be

this still doesnt explain why the alarm doesnt go off. my dads alarm goes off he tries to open the car with his key instead of central locking. after that it would go off when he was driving it. i cant remember what he did to stop it but for a few moments it looked like he stole the car lol

Ever seen a locksmith open a security door on a house before, around 20 seconds and the Lock barrel was out of the door in his hand and the door was open.

I was standing there like arrrr.. How the hell did you do that?

That was his hourly rate, and the reason he charged you $100 is because thats the minimum he'll take, if you get me.

So if he done 1 hour of work, it still would have been $100.

When I had my BAXR6T I locked the keys in the boot once, so I thought not a problem I will ring Ford on the customer care/breakdown number supplied by the dealer. I told them what had happened and they said they couldnt come around because I was too far from Melbourne (about 45k's) and then suggested to smash the smallest window on the car to get my way in. I politely hung the phone up on him and called RACV and in 10 minutes of the call a mechanic was over and opened the door in less than 5 seconds with no broken windows or damage to my car.

It reminds me when we had to get a locksmith to unlock my mums b'room door. It took him 20-30mins and $160.

My brother the sneeky **** (the reason why we have locks on our b'room) just uses his bankcard and he's in.

RACQ loved my XF the one time they had to unlock it for me..... the rubber/felt scraper seals had gone so hard they had to break a little bit out to get thier..... tool.... down beside the window lol

soon fixed that little issue, and now i can break into my XF and have it running in under 30 seconds.....

The easiest way to break into a car is to break a window, everyone knows this. If it were damn hard to do it for the motoring clubs then the damage they would do would be costly. Most people know a Falcon is easy to break into so they don't leave valuables in the car, but if you do your a fool, remember it only needs a rock through the window for a grab and run regardless of what you own.
I think this thread should be a good lesson on not leaving valuables in the car, not concern for how easy it is to break into one.
The dealership I work at has had some wheels etc stolen from stock vehicles and what do you think is the most common method for getting into the car?

Exact same thing happened to my old man couple weeks ago, (but it was my brother who actually locked the keys in the boot)
Called whoever it was out there and the guys had it done in no time. They said they get plenty of practise from the local ford dealer. People who work there always locking keys in the cars lol.

ummmm, just wondering, i have a au and am not able to lock the doors with out the key. now shutting them in the boot is an honest mistake, but having them in the car?!!! did ford go backwards with the locking or something? i havent had this problem since my au, but in the days of XD, XE it would happen from time to time, and they were easy to get into.

not every make/model, but often if the car thinks you opened it from the inside it will disarm the alarm, but 'smart' lock is still activated

i fit car alarms, the ford alarm wont trigger in certain circumstances, i think including using the key in the door,then opening it ,or replicating it(breaking lock),it would work if you smashed a window and opened the door i think.basically they're not much chop in my opinion, go buy a decent aftermarket alarm,with a tilt and glass break sensor.i'd personally pull the ford one out and lob it somewhere in the direction of the bin or sell it to some mug.you can (with the brand we fit anyway) run the factory lamo alarm with an aftermarket alarm.
at least commodores have had for years the basic horn beeping alarm as standard (much louder and gets far more attention than any alarm siren),when is ford gonna get it together with security

sorry to anyone that paid a fortune for the factory, i honestly dont think much of them,i wouldnt trust one on my car.
p.s. i certainly wont be posting it but i have found smartlock pretty easy to get around,BUT not tried on a BA, the latest i've tried is AU, i would hope its better now

Do you think it would be more secure if the car was unlocked and the windows wound down?

Maybe it gets rid of the thrill of the chase that way...haha
