Default Shell's New Optimax Extreme

Ok so i tried it. 100 RON and it does makes a difference : . bit more expensive (3c more) than optimax 98 but take coles shopper dockets with you. Interested to hear others opinions. It has 5% ethanol. I checked with Ford and they say its ok to use so I gave it a go.

I had the same concern, heard all the nasty stories of eating out fuel seals etc. I was suprised FPV got back to me so quick, and with a thumbs up.

Its 5% and that gets it to 100RON. 10% errrrrr I just got used to 5%

Ive tried it in my Au and it seamed to have a little more response on throttle but only a handful of servos have this Optimax in Sydney.

Filled up yesterday with it to give it a run - could feel a minor improvement with a smoother and quicker response (very slight). It would be interesting to dyno B4 and after to see if the curve raises slightly over the lower end.
I think it may not show anything but as said B4 the car does feel a tiny bit different (similar from the feel you get from 95 - 98 Octane).

PS anyone wanting to give it a run in Canberra - Servos= Dickson & Wanniassa. (from what ive seen)

I'm pretty sure the legislation is emissions-based.

We are also the only ones runs ULSD (Ultra-low sulphur diesel) 50ppm too

Looks like ultimate is the only way to go for us- and that's probably not a bad thing- at least we can get something- the downside being you may have to know where all the servos are and drive a little further to get ultimate; something that's no different from what we're all doing now I spose......

the downside is there's no competition over here for HP fuels so BP can ask what they want I guess (hence bad for wallet)

I normally always use BP Ultimate - the only reason I put the new Shell in is that here in Canberra we have run dry of Ultimate and there is a 2 week wait - unreal!!! But when the drums are full again I will be going back....I dont rekon the Optimax is as good as the Ultimate anyway even @ 100 Octane but I spose I will be able to see if there is any running performance when swapping back.
God only knows the reasoning behind the no optimax policy in WA - BP must have friends in high places......

I've tried BP ult & have found no difference to Shell's Optimax Mobils Syn or Uniteds Boost 98 on running or performance in A VCT pwrd AU.
But my nephew has a 2000 WRX that has had a lot of engine mods & when his filled up with BP ultimate the car losses performance & will only run to its best on Mobils synegy or Shells optimax. Speaking to him his still not sure about using ethernol in his car even at 100 Octane

I remember I pulled into the shell last week and say the sign on the pump - "New Optimax Extreme 100RON" ...

FANTASTIC!!

Just read on V8 Supercar website that the V8 supercars will be using the 100 octane feul as of next year. Stone Bros, D.J.R & HRT have all tested with it and reported more power & a cleaner burn. They also reported that they were able to take feul out of the engine and adjust the timing to suit resulting in better feul economy.From these reports it sounds like it could be a good thing,just hard to work out as to why they are charging 3cents a litre extra, which works out the same as optimax compared to standard unleaded per octane rating when they are using ethanol as the octane booster. Which they continuelly tell us is a cheaper feul. GO FIGURE.

Put a tankful in today as did a bloke in a white VP SS that had HOTR33 plates? WTF?

Car seems a tiny bit more responsive with a different type of tail pipe odour, should be interesting the next few drives.

Anything that's cleaner is better I guess. Standard Optimax still had too high sulphur levels.

Ultimate has always been a favourite of mine.

Ye I put some in the BA last night and maybe coz it was pretty cool it didnt seem to go too bad when I was 'showing' some friends how it 'rides' last night at a wedding. I will however be trying it this friday at Calder to see if it makes any difference their, although I doubt it, I wonder though if you were to add a good booster to this would it make much difference, hmmm

Not too sure on this one. I guess if you spill it on fibreglass then it wont be so pretty but may have something to do with the fuel lines.

Well so far I aint all that impressed with it, for the 4 days i had it in the car my average fuel was showing 15.9-16 l/100, yesterday I put mobill 8000 back in and its back to 15.6. So going off that its definitely no slow burner, but I will still give it a go at Calder this Friday weather permitting.

As for power I cant really say i felt much in it apart from the first night but it was rather cool that night, see how we go this Friday.
