Thumbs up US Dragster crash

Did anyone else see that footage on the news of that dragster snapping his chassis at a meet in the US.Pieces of his car ended up going through the traps at over 400kph.I believe the driver is OK but I reckon he'd have some mud in those flame proof jocks of his. :

Yep Cory was fine a little bruised. The team bought out a bare chassis from there race shop and assembled it on the Saturday and raced it on Sunday but unfortunately lost in the 1st round with a 4.66 @ 300+ MPH.

Great commitment love it......

What meet was it - NHRA? Top fuel rail i assume... Might be worth trying to catch on ESPN.... usually a few days delay before they play it here...

Didnt Schumacher run a 4.44 for the fastest ever pass? (or somewhere around that), does make you wonder what will happen when they go to the next stage of technology

Friggin quick, to run a 4.66 in a spare chassis is amazing

The NHRA are trying to slow these things down, everytime they come up with a new rule the Alan Johnsons & Austin Coils keep coming up with new ways to go even faster.

Dude, My father is a mad drag fan. He was telling me that he remembers going to watch them try to crack the 9sec barrier in the Top Fuelers... I think that was 25 years ago.... There now doing 4.5sec passes... I would not doubt that in 10 -20 years a pass in the 2sec would not be achievable... Just give them time and technology and derestrict some items and anything is possible

Hell, I remember them running 5.2's and everyone starting the "is a sub 5 possible?" discussions many years ago. Now a 5.0 wouldnt even see you in the round.

I recon it was a lot easier halving the times in the last 20 years, then halving them from here on in. It would be good to see though.
And a pretty wild crash. Lucky Schumacher was on the shutes when his broke in half a while ago, or similar would have happened.

Hmmm... I think from what ive seen the next barrier to go faster (apart from rule changes to slow em' down) is the physical barrier of the actual driver. There pulling some incredible g's and the human body can only take so much!

I wouldn't imagine they'll ever get much quicker than the 4.3's and 340 mph... They are on the verge of that now, but NHRA will likely slow them down first...

What staggers me is that the Funny Cars are right on their tails, 4.60's are no guarrantee of a win. Considering the extra weight, shorter wheelbase and less aerodynamics that is truly amazing!

The limiting factor will be G forces, they nearly black out as it is, much quicker and they could end up unconcious.
They can make the cars quicker, but they can't improve the effects of gravity on the human body.
i wonder how long before they go to 80% nitro or more boost/capacity restrictions?
Funnycars are allowed larger engines or more overdrive than rails aren't they?

Generally the funny cars have a larger engine capacity, but to compensate for this they carry more weight. They also have a shorter wheelbase and have nowhere near the aerodynamics of a dragster. This explains in laymans terms why the funny car will 9 times out of ten run a bigger mph than the top fueller on the same et, they need to make more power.
Next time they have top alcohol racing at your local track, go and stand at about 900 ft and watch the different chracteristics of the dragster v the funny car, it is quite a sight to see.

That rule is only in Australia in the Alcohol class (not enough cars to seperate them) it evens them out , "alcohol" dragsters and "alcohol" funny cars are called Top Alcohol here , now in the US the "Nitro" Top Fuel and "Nitro" Funny cars are in different classes but the engine rules are the same , 500 cubes max , blowers sizes (14-71) and the overdrives are the same , nitro % in the tank are the same , diff ratios etc , set ups are similar execpt the funny car locks up the clutch later and is softer off the start line because of less down force
