Default Everest tailgate lighting

Was driving from Newcastle to Sydney last night and kept passing and repassing an Everest.
But the bar on the tailgate between the lights with the word E V E R E S T had bright white LED bar inside it so the letters shone out white full time then turned bright red on braking.

Looked clever but it was so bright you could see it from the moon! Brighter than oncoming car headlights and totally blinding to drivers directly behind. Very annoying and a bit dangerous to have this dazzling your eyes as you drive at night, then when you pass you cant see a thing.

I thought bright white lights were illegal on the back (except reversing - co then its the front). Im guessing its not factory.

If you are here mr everest... about a quarter the power is fine, but you may be fined.

There's a BookFace page dedicated to the Everest where a number of owners have purchased these.

I'll make a comment there about the brightness and check what the feedback is.
(no, I don't have them on mine).

I don't know about brightness but I'm pretty sure that any constant colour other than red is not allowed on the rear of any vehicle.

You are only allowed number plate white light or reverse lights which is governed by certain positions on the rear of vehicles and trailers; anything else is illegal.
