Default BEST PETROL to use?

ive heard alot of debate on whats the cleanest, best fuel for your car.
i have a 03 xr6 and i tend to use BP 95 premium which does the job.
my mate has the same car and thinks shell 95 works better, and tells me to never use 7-11 petrol because its watered down...?
to be honest i dont know the difference so what do you guys think is the best fuel company?

I usually use BP 98 in my Camry. Stuck a tankful of 7/11 91 Octane in it out of necessity and it achieved the best mileage yet. Yes, it has a knock sensor and yes it is used actively.

Turbo cars is where you really need to worry about fuel IMO. When I had my Subaru turbos, the only fuel it liked was Optimax/v Power, anything else it would have a cry with.

As for my NA EB Xr6, I stuck stuck in it Caltex 91, 7/11 91, what ever servo I was at I just put 91 in it and it ran fine on everything I put in it. Same milage.

I only use mobil 98oct. mainly because it is my local and it is what it was dyno'd on. Another point did anyone notice 98 used to be about 8c/ltr more now it is 14c we are being rorted again :yeees:

I use 98 Ultimate, only because it seems everyone else is using it?....Is it the best?.....No idea...I've used VPower and Optimax and even the 95 RON offerings of the main 4 oil companies and honestly, noticed no difference

Stick with 95 premium fuel. Its more cleaner then 91 and you get better fuel economy with it.

Ive never noticed any difference in performance or economy between 95 and 98 octane fuels in my BA turbs. And IMO think its a bit of a marketing gig.

As for the brands you cant go wrong with the big brands - B.P, Caltex, Shell e.t.c.

You cant use 95 ron if you have had your T tuned to 98 ron. It will ping its little head of and possibly do alot of expensive damage. On a non tuned car it is fine to use. I have a tune in myn for 98 and an emergency 95 ron tune incase i get stuck.

Best Petrol to use? BP Ultimate. The cleanest and best refined fuel in Aus. Plus BP's the only company with a fuel guarantee, ie they'll actually give a rats if you think the fuel is no good.
The Best Value for money petrol? Non-E10 91RON anybrand.
Thread over.

Allways had it recommended to me by tuners. Even my mates who drive HSV, SS etc all use it, and where recommended to use BP 98 Ultimate by the tuners. My car has never missed a beat so i think thats pretty good proof.
Also id would have to go out of my way to find a mobil/caltex/shell 98 ron fuel station, i have 2 BP's within 3km of my house. But im not saying i only use it for convience, i would drive 20km if i had to.

Basically the same fuel as Mobil 8000, Mobil and BP fuel share that one area both will be supplied with the Mobil variant others both get the BP

best fuel without a doubt is BP ultimate...however i cant afford to refuel everytime with BP....if thats the case, i would use any other premium fuel usually caltex or shell..

The Caltex, Mobile and BP 98 fuels are very similar the Shell optimax has an additional additive that cleans the injectors, it is a more expensive fuel to produce, doesn't mean its better just more expensive.

Not true in Vic. Mine runs beautifully on Ultimate but is an absolute dog on 8000.

Seeing that the original question was for a BA XR6 ......

mine I run what ever nozzel fits into the hole, E10 95, 91 unleaded or anything else that is near when running on empty. Found not one hoot of difference between any and never had a drama with well over 100,000 on the clock.

yeh ive never had any problems with BP, sometimes 98, the rest of the time 95. i cant notice much of a power increase between the two but i can notice the difference if i use 91.
ill say BP is the best brand, they seem to know what theyre doing

Use what ever in the BA, usualy shell or caltex 91. Sometimes i will put BP ultimate in when im filling the jerry can for my Bike. Only use BP Ultimate in my bike and ef. The ef runs like a pig on normal 91. Not sure why but it just never seems right, rough idle etc. But with premium or Ultimate goes good.

I can see what the fuel companies are doing though, the price gap between 91 and 95 is huge now compared to 95 to 98.
91 to 95 is around 10 cents and 95 to 98 is around 6 cents.

I remember when these fuels used to be around all within 8 cents.

I use Ultimate or VMax in the Excel *Pictures everyone ROFL*.

I find Vmax runs smoother (perhaps the injector cleaner?) but Ultimate gives better economy...

I used Caltex 98 for a few years up until a couple of months ago, when I switched to BP ultimate. I find that Ultimate gives better economy in the Territory. The Terri also has a pinging problem.. and it pings MUCH LESS on ultimate than it did on Caltex's 98 octane fuel. Figure that one out. The new FG only ever gets BP ultimate now.

Realistically , I'd be more concerned about the servo you frequent more than the petrol itself.......Old and leaky gunked up tanks , Infrequent emptying leading to "old" fuel mixtures with potentially lower volatilities etc etc...........

I've used both BP Ultimate and Shell V Power exclusively on the GT........can't tell the difference. I only fill up at our local BP and SHELL servos - lots of patronage - fresher fuel - new bowsers and the BP is only 3 years old.
