Spoke to a couple today whose BMW X5 gearbox grenaded at 80k kms and just out of warranty, $11k+ to replace. They are trying to get BMW to fix it under 'good will'.

BA is superior.

Never understood why it gets dissed so much, mostly from AU owners.

Once you've had to do a few heater shafts you'll know why, we seem to get them coming in for heater shafts, coils, window motors and door locks, they're always the most common problems we get them in for.

I don't know what it is with Ford but they can't make window motors for crap, seriously all the Falcons, they always crap out window motors, on every damn model from E series onwards to BF.

So far since FG has been released we've never actually had any come in to work on for problems, aside for an ambient temp sensor always showing -6 degrees and the A/C not working when the battery is on its last legs.

I come to the conclusion that FG onwards must be pretty damn good.

I think you'll find all brand's electric windows motors are fairly average. Go to any of the automotive forums and they are often one of the most replaced items.

I couldn't disagree with you more. Dad has owned a BA for over 10 years, and only two things went wrong: power steering pump and door locks.

I've had a BF for over 8 years, and have had to replace the power window switch, the starter motor and gearbox.

Frankly, I can't really fault the reliability of either. Build quality (in terms of fit and finish) is a bit hit and miss on my BF, granted - those silver door trims in the BF in particular are a bit flimsy, but nothing rattles in the BA.

I have two B-series Falcons in my driveway, and I have previously owned an EA. The B-series is so far ahead of the EA it's not funny. It's silly to even compare the two in terms of reliability and build quality. The EA isn't even in the same league.

I thought the heading of the thread was "Ford Focus Fail"?
Looks like it has degenerated into another AU vs BA slanging match.
Keep it on topic.
