Default 10 sec street VL

Hey guys.

A bloke at work just sold his VX V8 ute and got a VL turbo with the batman kit for 15k i think.
Anyway, I asked him how it goes, he said it does 10's on 14 pound boost but will run all day every day on 34 pounds! It's a manual with not a great deal of room for decent slicks.

Your thoughts? Is he full of it?

How do you recon a manual transmission would hold up to 34 lb boost?

I mean really are you taking the PI$$ or what?

Its times are not all that unbelievable really but why don't you just go see it for yourself? 34 pounds of boost though all day every day is someone parroting what the seller has told them. Not many engines, if any will happily take that sort of boost all the time without breaking something. If anything i'd say he got the 14lb for every day and 34lb for the 10 sec time and just mixed them around.

if it's a built engine and box it could run those times and hold that much boost. it's not impossible to make decent power with them, a mates VL makes 460rwhp@15psi with a built motor. he hasn't run it yet, but, in a car that weighs 1300kg + driver there is no reason it can't run 10's.

sounds feasible, the car weighs in light, a mates supra ran comparable boost making but making more ponies, but he`s dreaming to think it will last forever.

This is absolute gold !!!
Love ya work

What makes me larf about some of these engines is , running massive boost is great when ya talking dribble to ya mates, but most run decomp plates to help acheive the boost they supposably run
So whats better , nice highish comp with minimal boost , or low comp with more boost ???
I dunno , 35 LBS boost shoved in an RB30,everyday , couldnt see it lasting very long

I personally wanna see a time slip, before id beleive it

Hahahahaha!!! Gold!

Personally dont believe it. Only going off the info in your OP, hes full of it. Let me put it to you this way. If you had an XR6T with same psi options, would you be bragging about running 10s at 14 pound or running high 8s/low 9s at 34 pound? There are too many reasons within this thread to say he bull crapping!
Dont get me wrong, Ive known VLs to be "jack in the boxes" with some $$$ spent into them, but in this case I can only go off the OPs details and it sounds like another "sicker then hectic" VL driver...

Your mate may be talking some **** 34psi all day every day seems like a big ask but its very easy to run 10s in a manual vl. Theres people running 10's with stock NA bottom ends. As much as people rag on VL's, RB's and VL's make awesome drag cars

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QBCc2...eature=related

Stock skyline r33 manual box. This car ran consistant 9 secs every time it went was street driven aswell.

This car is now called Temper been resprayed yellow (bt1 bro!!) runs 8's on skyline box although now it has been strengthened with straight cut gears and the like internally.

I knew of a guy running a big boost VL as a daily and the thing was just a pig, it was always having reliability issues no matter how much cash was thrown at it. He just ended up getting rid of it in the end.

Older engines on big boost usually just aren't reliable as daily drivers. The RB30 is what, over 25 years old now.

More modern engines can handle it better now.

your assuming everytime he puts his foot down the boost hits 34psi. just because a car is tuned to 34psi doesn't mean it runs 34psi all the time.

driving on the street it might only get to 10-15psi. he maybe meant the tune he runs on the street is a 34psi tune, possibly he doesn't have have a high-low boost tune, doesn't know how to use the boost controller to turn the boost down on the street or is full of crap.

when he says it will run 34psi all day every day maybe he means at the drag strip. RB's are a pretty tough engine once the engine has had some work done.

I know it is easier said than done but a few things would put it all out in the open. engine dyno results, roller dyno results and time slips.
