Default The Mean Pintara!

Hey.

Thought i would share. My mate has a Pintara. 88 i think it is. Old skyline shape. Not sure if its a 2litre or 1.8 . Anyway its auto jsut your average car. But when ever you stomp it off the mark in drive it takes off and just about every time the thing chirps 2nd gear? We call it The Mean Pintara. Must be something wrong with it? what do you guys think?

Could be the 2.4 litre Engine. They had about 100 kw, but the body was pretty light and they seemed to go Ok from what I remember.

Was also sold by Ford as the Corsair.

It'll either be a 2 litre of 2.4 litre I4.

The Corsair type is a newer front wheel drive model that came out in about 1990. He said he has the type that looks like an R31 Skyline.

Its 2.0L and its a little LESS than average. My dad bought a second hand one in 91 wuth 29,000km on it from the government auctions. The autos in them are really bad and seem to hang onto first gear for ever. He hated that gearbox, used to always go on about it. He handed that car down to my sister who managed to collect a taxi in it in the city and right it off. It was stuffed because she never put oil in it and the whole rear window (it was a wagon) was smeared with what was left of the engine oil. Insurance paid out $7500 for it and then got the renewal and they has lowered the value to $5500. They had a win on that car, actually wore it out and made money. If you are in Sydney and want parts there are about 50 of the things at Pick n Payless.

hmmmm my first car, a 180B had a similar quirk......

In the wet, when I stomped the go pedal it would just take off like a regular car, but once the auto went to second one of the rear tyres would spin like crazy till it hit 3rd....

Sound like a lack of grip rather than an excess of power.

It wouldnt have anything to do with the fact that pintara's run 4.11 Gearing in the diff. and can sit there all day and burn rubber sitting on just 2200rpm (it was an auto)

I had a 91 Pintara 2.0 Auto. Final drive was 4.133:1 in that thing. It could jump away from a 5.0L SS Commodore for about 5 metres... then they'd drive past you and be miles away as if you're not even moving. The gearing is what does it, nothing to do with any actual power, of which they have none.

I used to have one many years ago on my P's (in fact parents still have it albiet not functioning). As said gearing is very low, fun car in the wet (it is RWD isn't it, my memory fails me) but power???? no way...

As said before, 4.11 diff with a single spinner and narrow (175) tyres will pretty much be the reason why.
