Default The Great London Range Rover Heist

Watch as Antony and Danielle's Range Rover is taken, and discover where it ends up. A discussion of what this does to insurance follows:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cVCNer2ylMI

Next up is how this process occurs, whocoodanode that the remote keyless entry is so floggable. No break and enter required, motivated thieves, creative dismantlers, international market:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_rZ3oV9VsDI

(3:46 - that's a superb version of the good old 'grampa bar' for the steering wheel, jurassic tech saving the owners!)

And then it's possible that the thefts/insurance are affecting resale values. 90 a week stolen, that's over 5000 per year:

Some of the UK car YouTubers I watch have said for the past couple of months now, that it is virtually impossible to insure a Range Rover in London ATM, with the theft risk being what it is.

This is from one of those guys at an auction, the JLR cars either had no bids, or were passed in for far less than their normal value...

Yeah I saw that one. Surely this kind of theft affects other brands too?

Wonder if it's worth the bother buying and shipping one here...

I was also thinking as it seems every six months one of the luxury brands announces a price update on one of their models and before you know it a Merc or BMW is $10K more than 12 months ago even when they claim the base spec is now higher as the more common options of previous models becomes standard fit here....is there a threshold above which even luxury car buyers decide enough is enough....or is badge appeal so great you just bare it and roll over every few years.

An update, it seems JLR has stepped into the fray, connecting with owners, rolling out security updates, and actually offering insurance (this is big) to potentially offset some of the incredible quotes that owners have been getting to renew:

Sort of related: Christian and Vera at LR Time have bought a L405 Range Rover and are about to deliver some good months worth of viewing and humour as they meticulously repair every fault that will go wrong.
