Default BA11 GT 430kw VS MUSTANG.

I have been told that a new 10 speed Mustang would smash my Whipple supercharged GT. Car has 100000 on the clock, supercharger has 4000.
It'S intercooler is the same size as my radiator. Its also got Genie high flow extractors, High flow cats, twin 2.5 Xforce exhaust, hi flow injectors, Aeromotive fuel pump, Herrod oil breather separator and Herrod CAI. 750nm @ 3000 rpm.
I think its safe to say I would beat it of the line, But what about up to a speed of 200. Is the 10 speed in the Stang that much better than my old Aussie 4 speed. Or is it marketing tricks and car manufactures keeping up with wanting to one up there opposition. I am sure 10 gears will be where it stops. I think 10 gears would be good if you want to break the sound barrier. But is just not needed on a motorcar.

Engines are rated at their peak power, so you only hit it for a split second in each gear. You have fewer gears, so you will hit that peak spot less, and deviate away from peak power more as your rpm drops more. In other words, more speeds = more average power, and yes it makes a difference.

All of my V8 Falcons have TR6060 or T56 Magnum manuals. Sixth gear is used regularly in all.

It may have something to do with how the VX was geard (longer or shorter) Not sure. The only time I used sixth was out of town . I have never owned a ford manual. It would be interesting to hear from other VX-VZ 6 speed manual owners.

BTR 4 speed was made in Australia for yonks. It was strengthened to handle the 500nm of the GHIA and the 520nm of the GT. Don't know how long mine will last with 750 nm.

Maybe a little research is needed prior to stating:

Just a suggestion. Compare the gear ratios of the transmissions, the rear gear ratios of the cars, the tq and hp bands, the weights of the cars and the types of driving done by the cars and drivers.

Then, by all means, buy and use what works best for. However, others may different needs or even wants.

Obviously you would smash a Mustang with your less gears, but the question is why do you need four gears when you should be running a two speed Powerglide in your car.

You do realise it’s not like having a 6 speed box then adding 4 more gears after 6th right?

Too many variables... your GT is at least 150kg heavier so power to weight will be close. I would say whoever gets the better launch will pull ahead.

When it comes to comparing the transmissions, the 10-speed is light years ahead of the BTR 4-speed and even though the Mustang needs 5 shifts compared to 2 shifts in your car to reach the same speed, the 10R80 shifts much faster and keeps the Mustang's 5.0L V8 (12:1 comp) in it's power-band for longer.

I remember hitting the speed limiter in my BA XR8 with the 4-speed box... I could reach 190kph at the top of 3rd gear !!

A rolling race will be another story altogether...

More than likely the Mustang will beat you. Can get to 100 in under 4 seconds, and you will most likely not get your power down cause the torque of a blown V8 will just make it want to wheel spin. So a lot of it would come down to wether you could actually get it cleanly off the line.

And PS drag mode is unbelievably effective. I was blown away how good it gets it's power down and how fast it shifts.

Apple/Oranges however, Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Auto, 5 gears vs 8 gears same power output, same car weight, etc.

The 8 Speed on average was 0.6 - 1 second to 100kph quicker with the 8 speed, and with much greater economy with day to day driving.

Mustang with the 10 gear auto should be more of a weapon compared to the 6 speed auto, even without any engine power/torque increase.

From a dig the stang will get you. From a roll it would be a different story I'm sure.
