Good write-up and some valid points-of-view. The Focus chassis is well suited to handle more power and I've read journo's critisisms of the stupid gearchange button set-up previously so I take it that you're not going to use it?

Well said, its a hot looking car but for $38k it really should have a turbo attached!

I just let the car do it's own thing and figure itself out, so there's not really a point in me using the buttons. I'm not going around racing people anyway. Lol. Not that kind of p-plater.

Would love to hear about how you find driving it, and some of the features.

Particularly:
* how after a while, you find the turning circle and the ride on the 18's
* how well does the adaptive cruise work
* what are the xenon's like at night
* how do you go with the proximity key - never used one before, curious how you find it
* how well the parking sensors work - blind spots - difficult to see areas, etc.
* anything else that annoys you in the car
* things missing you think it should have
* comfort on long drives

That's actually the exact car and specifications that I'm after. If you don't mind, do you mind PMing me the dealer that you purchased the car from?

I've been hard pressed to find one with a price as low as yours (that isn't from WA or SA or VIC...).

I have had mine for just over 2 months & done 5000k

Turning Circle is not that good but u get use to it! I don’t do 3 point turns often

The ride is firm but that's how I like it!

Adaptive cruise is the best tech on the car! I use it heaps!

Xenon's don't seem much different to any other car that I have had! Cornering lights are good & day running lights are good.

Push start & keyless entry is great! Keys are now a pain when I jump in our other car.

Parking sensors are good! No probs to date

Can’t think of anything Ford have missed !

I have done four 4 hour trips in it to date & it was great fun to drive (looking forward to my next trip to the bush)

My last trip: Adelaide-Mildura-Adelaide on a tank of diesel with some to spare.
6.1/100km with a strong head wind on the return leg. Fuel economy & the powershift are improving with more km on the clock

5000km's in two months is alot of k's, you definitely chose the right engine

It's a nice bus & the diesel just go's

5000km's & I have been away for work ! a week in the UK & a week interstate with it sitting in the shed !

I hear the white ones are faster

My four minor (fussy) gripes with the car are:

1) I wish the satnav pointer would point in the direction of travel rather than the top of screen always showing north.

2) The push start should be on the right. I like to have one hand (finger) on the start button and the other on the t/bar ready to shift into gear. (also hard to see the push start button.)

3) Should have standard digital radio like the UK models.

4)No air vents for the rear passengers. I believe the Thai built Focus will have them.

By the way my wiper arms pivot freely across the screen. At first I thought the pivot nut was loose, but I guess this is a feature to make cleaning the screen easier??
Also the fuel flap doesn't lock which makes it easy for someone to sabotage the auto fuelling filler neck.

I can live with the dual clutch thump at low speeds and hope that this gets better in time. But I will make Ford aware just in case they come up with a TSB/fix, at the 1st service.

There is a setting on the GPS to change the arrow direction. It might not be what you're after though. I'm unsure what you actually want.

We never realised the fuel flap wasn't locked. That's a bit annoying.

My Navman display is like your looking out your w/screen with the road in front and not from above as on the Focus display.
I wish I could cut and paste the two displays to show what I mean.

Regarding the fuel flap, have you checked yours? May be mine is faulty??

i believe that's a "feature"... i can't remember where i read it tho.

in some cars i have driven the fuel filler cap locks with the central locking.. can you open the fuel filler cap when all the doors are locked?

On my XR5 i think has the same capless fueling filler,
the cap can be opened with the car locked, but the steel flap inside the filler nozzle is locked solid, it only releases when the car is unlocked.

No. Just tried the fuel filler again. The steel flap inside the filler tube still opens when the car is locked. Might try again after the car has been locked for a while. Maybe there is a delay after you lock the car.

My Suzuki Kizashi's fuel flap locks when the doors are locked. But my Focus does not.

I got myself the same car (Titanium Diesel with the Sports Executive Pack Diesel) it's the first new car and first car I have bought and I am very happy with my choice! The cruise control is a absolute gem and the Automaric parking is the best when your driving someone who hasn't been in the car before or if you need to park on a main rd...people look at you and are like "wtfff" hahaha
I have mine in the Midnight Sky colour which I think looks nice

one thing I have to change is my plates from the standard ones to the euro ones.

Had it since the start of December, done 3,200kms so far and it's been nothing but a joy

I'll put up a pic when I jump on a computer (currently on iPad :P)

The only issue that I have with the car is the back drivers side door trim has a rattle in it when I am listening to songs within a certain Bass frequency (it's doing this when played at around 8-9 so I'm not blasting it & I haven't changed any EQ settings besides fading it to the front abit)

I honestly thought I was the only one with this rattle problem. Anyway, I got them to fix it when I picked up the car. They ended up putting some padding in the door trim to absorb some of the bass so it's not soo noticeable anymore - compared to what it sounded like before. I guess that's what happens when the car comes with a lot of bass.

If you mention it to them when you take the car in I'm sure they'll have time to have a look for any rattles, it shouldn't take them that long to walk around the car, kick all 4 wheels and check the oil level on the dipstick at the 3,000 km check up

Yes mention it to them at the first service, and make sure it is documented in your first service invoice. Rattles if not complained of in the first service will be something you will own, as rattles are not a warranty issue after that. Even if they cannot duplicate the concern it's documented and the next time they cant say : Sorry rattles are not covered under warranty..tough.
