My initial thought when i read about the steel bumper was that US bumpers get tested at a higher speed than ours, but i have no idea if it was even a co sideration for that.

Good question.

This gets into the history of bumper tests here:

http://sparebumper.com/everybody-know-bumpers/

Interestingly, pickups, suvs and a 3rd class are not tested here. Vans are the 3rd class.

Smart.

Here all they are concerned about is how many pedestrians you can kill.

FFS get off Facebook, otherwise you deserve to be killed for walking into a moving car.
It's mad.

Something to give us hope,
I recall a close up of this Ranger's badge indicating a 3.2 diesel
maybe the I-5 diesel is longer for this world than some think......

There’s a chance this could be the Australia-bound Ranger Raptor that’s debuting in Thailand on February 7. The wheels appear to match the ones we’ve seen in videos, as do the beefier fenders. But why is Ford testing it in the U.S.? We hope it’s because the Blue Oval is readying a Ranger Raptor for the North American market as well. We’ve heard the Australian market will get the Ranger Raptor with a tuned 3.2-liter turbodiesel I-5, but a high-output version of the twin-turbo 2.7-liter EcoBoost V-6 sounds like a nice fit for a U.S.-market model. The Aussie Ranger Raptor should also get a 10-speed automatic transmission, low-range transfer case, unique off-road-tuned suspension, and 17-inch wheels wrapped in BFGoodrich A/T tires.

Ford tests in America for lots of reasons - one being it's a **** load colder over there than here!

Why not? I already bought one brand new Ranger and did a few mods to it. A good engine, comfortable suspension that goes well off-road and tough looks would definitely get me looking at when when I'm ready for a new car.
So far it seams to have everything but an engine that interests me.
But hey maybe they will surprise us.

Keep up uninformed assumptions though.

Fiesta, Focus and Everest are all made in Thailand too, I'm guessing they are buckets as well?
Id love a Raptor ,..but it would have to be US built with the right power plant to justify the asking price , I bought a 2013 PX ,.and have to agree , cheaply made and it showed up real quick ,.,.my previous work car of 3 years an FG G6ET had done 180,000 hard klms and was in better shape than the Thai Built Ranger at 60,000 klms in 1 year
good luck to those that love them,.for sure they've nailed it in the looks department , but the rest is pretty crappy.,..if you're into 4x4 pick ups drive an Amarok , then tell me if you'd buy a Ranger ,..worlds apart

If the Explorer ST is getting a 400hp 3.0 EcoBoost, then I think this is the engine the Ranger Raptor should get.

You really are offended by people who have different opinions aren't you? Well it is 2018 I guess. AFF should be an echo chamber of everyone saying "yes, yes, so cool, perfect job Ford, yes"

At a price we can only dream about.
"Expect the Ranger Raptor to arrive in U.S. showrooms as a 2019 model sometime in the first half of next year. Prices are expected to compete with the Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, which starts at $40,400 and increases with options. Perhaps Ford will also offer a turbodiesel and gasoline engine option, just like the Colorado ZR2, as well. Again, tune in to TopSpeed.com on February 7 for all the details." From Top Speed article.

Bullbars should absolutely be designed to kill in my opinion. If you happen to hit some poor roo the last thing needed is for it to be left on the road with severe injuries and suffering. Which happens a lot now.
It's far more humane to kill them outright.
According to the insurance companies, there are more claims for kangaroo strikes in the Canberra area than anywhere else in the country.
So you do need bullbars in the cities these days...

just stating my experience ,.fyi both pick ups were similar money low 50's , the Argentinian was a great car, (still got it has 345000klms) the Thai lady boy didn't compare in build quality , comfort or engineering ,..but i guess if you put it up against 5hitters like a Great wall or LDV you could argue its a ripper car .

Imo you're being blind-sighted by good looks and clever marketing
