Default Back to the E-series... My new EL2 Ghia

Well, after selling my EB XR8 I wanted to get back in an E-series aswell as have the XD rebuilt, so i was on the hunt for a cheap E something, It had to be a Fairmont ghia, for the little extras that come with them, And i didnt want anything thats getting on in years, So i found this 1998 EL Ghia...
The K's scared me a little, but after a long test drive, it felt good and solid still...
I got it for $5500 which is alright...
It needs a good buff and maybe a rear bumper respray i think, plus theres a scungy spot on the roof, it looks like its just faded in that little bit...
I popped 1 of the rear speakers last night, so i have come to the conclusion, premium sound sucks,
The must-do mod list:
Lowering
Stereo
Dark tint
Extractors and a new 'zorst
Heres a few pics, its raining today, so no point washing it atm...

It feels like driving the old mans landcruiser at the moment, so lowering cant come soon enough...

I want an EL Ghia more than anything else mate, top job. Also, how'd you manage to blow a rear speaker!? Lol maybe it was parked in the sun a lot and the speaker perished a bit.

Looks very nice.
Your call on the headlight protectors though, ive kept mine on, they look alright IMO; but more importantly they do a job, go and price up one of those headlights!

I have no idea how you popped a speaker aswell, ive had mine on full most of the time and no issues; you must listen to girly club music :

You coming to the AFF Drag meet? It would be good to see another ghia 6 there!

Looks quite tidy. Looking at those headlight, it's a good thing it did have the headlight protectors on it. They do a good job of keeping the EF/EL headlights from going yellow.

Looks great man! They always look good in Silver.

How many kays has yours done?

I'd leave the headlight covers on if I were you, they don't look bad. I went and bought a set for mine from Ford because I like them so much.

How much do Ford charge? I picked up a genuine set of ebay for $30, thought it was bit of a bargin, but I never called to see what Ford Parts charge.

Hmm, i might clean up the headlight protectors and put them back on... but we have 2 spare sets of EL fairmont headlights in the shed anyways... And i have never chipped or smashed a light so...
Polyal, I'll have a look at the drag meet, but i dont want to take it there looking stocko...
How low will the car drop with superlows? i dont want it to be too impractical... Any ideas?

Those headlights are near on unbreakable by stones etc.
Plastic headlight covers for plastic headlights are a gimmock IMHO.

Nice pickup on the ghia Tonko, gotta love leather.

The headlight covers actually stop the headlights going yellow. well worth keeping them on IMO.

Yes they do.

A good example. Not long after I bought my EL Ghia, Sunny bought that Sparkling Burgundy one. Both cars had identical K's and were in the same condition. His one had headlight protectors from new and the lights were mint. Mine didn't have protectors and the lights were typical yellow :S

Yeah what Ash said. The connection between good headlights and headlight covers is obvious.

Polyal, I payed $65 for brand new genuine headlight covers. The guy at Ford wanted something like $88, but I managed to haggle him down. They are pretty cruisy if you get them in the right mood, there's many discounts that they can apply.

Sorry, wasn't specificly thinking of the dreaded e-series yellowing of headlights, more the stone protection they're originaly intended for.

I can see the value in them if they stop the headlights going yellow, but for any other car with plastic headlights they're a ripoff.

Superlows should drop it around 50/60mm. Looks like it's in good nick. Good pickup for the $$$$.

Yeah im pretty happy with it, i had superlows in my first car (EA) and it was still about 40mm above the tyre, which was pretty dodgy...
So im not sure what to go with, and nobody say choppies, did that too, end result was a 60mm hole in the fuel tank, lol.
