Default 2017 Ford Escape wipers.

Both my front wipers seem to have 10cm + movement or play on the shaft when not in use. Is this normal? They seem to work ok.

It's the same on our 2017 Ford Transit Custom. The first time I moved them by hand I thought they were completely loose or broken, obviously deliberate and maybe a way of protection.

Yeah....I have since discovered that they settle under the front of the bonnet on some Fords and it is a safety feature.
Also it allows you to pull them back and away from the windscreen when cleaning or replacing wiper blades I suppose...
