Default DSC on BF Falcons

Hi Guys

I have a question im sure some of you would know. I have a BF 2 Typhoon and was wondering if these cars have Electronic Stability Control, or ESC?

This shows it does

http://australiancar.reviews/reviews...e=FPV&model=F6 Typhoon&gen=281&pno=0

also the below link says its optional. Im guessing standard on FPV

http://www.nextcar.com.au/n.ford.fal...nch.06oct.html

Thanks for your reply Russell. I wasnt sure as the sites like Carsales dont put that in. As far as i am aware, this ESC was optional on the BF series 2 falcons but standard on the XR6 turbo and XR8 amd also the Fairmont Ghia, so i would assume it was standard also on the FPV's. I always thought it was just the FG series that it came out in.

DSC was not available on BF and BF MK II FPV models.

Only become standard on FPV from FG onwards.

But it was standard on the BF xr6 turbo? Doesn't make sense

From memory, the engineering cost was prohibitive for FPV. FPV's BF programme money was spent on new bumpers and dual exhaust system. They did have traction control though.

This was when Ford and FPV weren't one and all. FPV/Prodrive had to fund their own developments to the basic Falcon based package they had available to them from Ford. The extra power, stronger brakes, larger wheels and altered suspensions settings over and above the basic XR models means that a new DSC tune would have been necessary, costing millions in additional testing.

When the customer expects new styling, larger wheels and a sexier exhaust, something that's unseen like DSC doesn't shout "new" in the brochure.

No it wasn't. At the time FPV buyers wanted better sound ( dual exhaust ) , better brakes ( Brembo ) , more kit ( standard dual zone AC and premium steering wheel ) , better wheels and tyres ( 19 in wheels standard instead of 18's ) , better German made auto gearbox with more gears and they didn't want to pay anything extra over the old BA GT !!!!!
Not to mention the fact that most FPV buyers were jumping in the car and turning traction off anyways. ( famous 2 finger ignition on and TC off start sequence ) Spending the coin to calibrate a unique DSC program and forego all of the above options would have been heresy ! They did the right thing IMHO.

Understand what your saying, but i still dont understand why it couldn't be put on the F6. The system is already designed. How can you have more safety gear that actually helps the cars handle better on a lesser cheaper model. Its like a Clubsport having MRC but not the GTS. Its ridiculous

Different wheels , tyres brakes and suspension means that the FPV cars needed their own unique specific DSC calibration. DSC doesn't make your car handle better, it's a safety option not a performance option. FPV buyers at the time didn't care about DSC and probably still don't ....

Yep, I recall reading that Ford didn't have the time to calibrate the DSC to the Brembo-fitted vehicles, and was low priority for the driving enthusiasts anyway, hence why it wasn't available on the FPV's until FG. They did have Traction Control though, but not on all the utes until later.

As said above, the DSC was standard on the BF/BF2 XR8, XR6 Turbo and Fairmont Ghia

But it didn't work on mine when the left rear encountered oil on the road and the right didn't, thus executing an immediate left turn into a rock embankment.
I've had the rear try to get away from me on the track and always caught it but this happened so fast I was halfway into correction when the rock wall greeted me.

So from what i gather. Anyone with ESC that changes there rim size or brake size could affect the way there ESC works?

Wheel size only if front to rear have different rolling diameter as ABS uses wheel sensor speed to activate. So if the ABS control module registers vastly different front to rear rotating speeds then it will activate to control the wheel that is spinning faster, essentially thinking you've lost traction in that wheel. DSC uses ABS as well as yaw and accelerometer sensors to adjust traction as well as trajectory. So if you fit larger wheels that have different rolling diameter front to rear ( usually staggered sets with incorrect profile matching ) then you will have issues with ABS which in turn will affect the DSC as well.

That's because DSC and TC are completely different. TC is only there to prevent wheel spin while taking off on a slippery surface, not much more. DSC may have helped in your situation. Shame about your car, as long as you weren't hurt though.

Nope and nope.

Glad it doesn't, I can drive myself thanks.

I'd hate to think what messes I'd be in having it interfere while on track.

I wouldn't, DSC is probably the best thing since ABS, it works in combination with ABS and has saved me from idiotic drivers a couple of times

Does it turn off when traction control is off? Pretty sure it doesnt. DSC is always active. Someone correct me if im wrong here.
I have always used the double touch start up on all my cars, start button, TC off.
The wifes new mazda needs a 3 push startup, Start, TC off, Stop/start off.
I hate cars that require more than one button to turn that stuff off. Not much choice left now holden and ford are gone.

I think one touch is tc off, or hold it down for 5 or 10 seconds to switch both off.

About 3 years ago I had a flat tyre in my fg 2009 xr6 turbo. Put the space saver spare on and all the warning lights came on.. no abs. No dsc. no traction control. Got the tyre fixed put the original alloy back on and within 30 seconds of driving all systems back to normal

Can only speak for my 2007 BF11 Ghia, just checked my drivers manual, in my case DSC comes on automatically at start up and you have the option of turning it off manually by pressing and holding the DSC button for one second, DSC and TC are integrated and turning it off turns off both.

DSC monitors all 4 wheels in conjunction with ABS, whereas TC only monitors the driven wheels.

Earlier Falcons had TC only and ABS (my EL Ghia had), and TC could also be turned off manually.

When I had the cheap tyres on I could bring DSC into action easily in the wet, since putting good tyres on haven't seen it once, apart from when avoiding the occasional idiotic driver, that's why I have never turned DSC or TC off, you never know when your going to need it

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

That's not a space saver ... that's about as close as circumference to your alloy. And found on base model non-1T utes as standard.

If you want to see a space saver ... look in the boot of an FG .... it's like a bicycle tyre .... literally.
