It's interesting isn't it? I can see about 20 different cars in the design of this one, everything from Land Rover to Jeep has been copied lmao.

In otherwords they’ve copied none.

Not necessarily. There are obvious design cues from various brands. There is certainly nothing new or interesting design wise.

I'd expect that from the Chinese that sort of thing. Can spot some very not so subtle rip offs from the Cayenne and BMW in the interior. Even the steering wheel looks like it's straight off a Ford or Land Rover of some sort?

I think the term is derivative, it reminds you of other vehicles without being a direct copy.

Peter Schreyer is the head of design at KIA and Hyundai. He used to work for Audi, he designed the Audi TT.
Luc Donckerwolke always works at KIA and Hyundai. He used to work for VW, Bentley, Lamborghini and Audi.

There is a reason KIAs and Hyundais are looking more sharp and prestigious.
They have great designers.
It’s not the 90s anymore.....

To add to that list, former BMW M Sport division boss Albert Biermann, who has been with them since 2015. Now chief of R&D since end of 2018.

Those Korean designers including Peter Schreyer, Luc Donckerwolke and Gregory Guillaume should stop copying those European designers. And that Albert Biermann - he cant make a car ride and handle for peanuts, he should just stay in Korea.

While I still think the new BMW/MB suv's have the edge of exterior looks and this Kia is more X7/GLS sized however with an interior like that the euro's are going to struggle to justify their inflated prices as time goes by.
Just how much is a badge worth once design, tech and reliability are equal or bettered and badge "snobbery" is overcome as you save big bucks and spend your surplus money elsewhere?

Admittedly, when I first read the topic heading my immediate thought was “there goes the build quality”.

I get your sarcasm, but despite all that, those euro designers didn’t pen something original.
It will look like every other Korean car before it. Striking when first launched. Yesterday’s dogs breakfast five years down the track.

I'm talking from a styling perspective. I don't think that has a bearing on how good or reliable the car is.
You only need to go back to 2010 when the Santa Fe, ix35, i30, i40 were new and people were fawning over them... Time hasn't been kind to them aesthetically.

And it's cousin, the Hyundai Palisade.

I think that Kia & Hyundai Aus are really pushing for these things, it remains a watch this space area.

Well in 1960 the XK Falcon was essentially a right-hand drive version of the North American model.

Ford's publicity department were aware that much of Holden's popularity was derived from it having been marketed as "Australia's Own Car" and worked overtime prior to the arrival of the all new model in Australia, claiming it to be "Australian - but with a world of difference".

Yes I saw that one, but I think it's built in Korea, but an example of the ever expanding fleet.

not sure if we are getting it either

I hadn't checked where they're built but they're the same platform as with many Hyundai/Kia's. I actually think I now recall someone saying there's a chance of the Hyundai coming here because of where it's built as opposed to the Kia.
