I hear the prototype 4 cylinder XR will have a video camera in the front with screens above the rear seats.

This is for the Falcon enthusiasts that have extreme difficulty with the concept of forward and spend all their time looking backwards.

I would because it is the only Falcon model that appeals to me.

The XT is just not a nice thing to look at not matter how good a car it under the skin. The G6 and G6E to me are more targeted at an older age bracket.

In a way the strategy is a little confusing, wouldnt the younger buyer who is attracted to the XR be more inclined to want a direct injected turbo 4? Rather than the older buyer who would be more comfortable with the I6 and more likley to want a G6 or G6E?

EcoBoost is aimed at fleets, I don’t see how fleets would have any interest in the XR (apart from rental companies maybe, police go for XR6T anyways) - most would just go for the cheaper XT that surprisingly has the best economy anyways.

As for the private sector I believe Ford have an opportunity to release the EcoBoost in the XR but with a slightly different tune (sacrifice a tiny bit of economy for a bit more power and better sounding exhaust …) .. but they probably won’t bother as in the greater scheme of things private buyers make a small percentage of Falcon sales and developing models just for that is not economically viable …

Maybe when they drop the inline altogether, assuming Falcon RWD lives on, they will drop the '6' in XR6 and just call it the 'Falcon XR'? The 'XR6' would be reserved for the EcoBoost V6 version and FPV would continue to make the only available V8 Falcons.

But the I6 is still the default engine in XT, G6 and G6E. The XR6 may even now be seen as more as a base model as you cant option the technologically advanced Ecoboost in it.

Not having EcoBoost in the private buyer friendly XR is a silly move in my opinion.

have a look through the ecoboost threads on this very forum. not many are looking at the 4cyl as the 'premium' option. if ford enthusiasts (apparently) can't accept it as a premium option, do you really think the public will?

can you get the 3.0L in SV6?? whats the difference?

Hm, a large family car, sporty, 4 cylinder running costs, rego, similar power to a 6, aftermarket tunes (I'm sure this will happen), sounds all terrible.

I hope it does get exempted for P-platers as well.

As much as I love the I6, I'd equally love to have a 4 cyl as advanced as that in a Falcon as well. And I'm sure younger buyers will also be looking at these Falcons as well.

But let's not forget, any car that's fitted with a turbo, and driven by a P-plater will instantly kill 3 babies and 5 elderly people, going by Vicroads logic!

P Platers have $40k to spend on a new car? Man things have changed....

I would if there was no other choice, I would prefer a TDi from the Tez though; it would be a great car in G6E form with the 6SPD.

Right from the beginning the Ecoboost was going to be an optional extra (probably until the currency situation changed).

And the difference is the Ecoboost has the performance to back the fuel economy, the 3.0L doesnt.

Who cares if its seen as premium or not....its an option that should be available in all models if it gets the numbers up.

The XR brand has already been pimped with the B and F series so a little more wont hurt, whatever it takes to get sales going.

The only reason I can see for anyone to chase performance in an EB4 Falcon is novelty value.

In a Falcon sized car;
Ecoboost for economy
I6T & V8 for performance

The Ecoboost might handle better, but if its handling your after you wouldn't buy any Falcon.

I Agree. Remember the days when Tickford were responsible for XR6's and XR8's. They were very different to the base model Falcon, and that is how it should be.

Well with the Feista dropping the XR4 badge, there is an opening in the line up.....

Would I buy one; yeah. As the idea of a cheaper run-a-bout taxi would be usefull to me at the moment. But not FG guise and as long as it was not badged as an XR6. - Call it an XR4, XR20, XRE - I don't care.

i cant wait to see the turbo v6s and turbo 4s going into falcons.

all the young kids can stuff noisy blow off valves on them, and falcons will drive down the street sneezing all day lol

But you cant get a i6t brand new for $37000 now can you?

Besides, if its "my engine is bigger then yours" contest alot of people seem to care about then yes, the i6t will always win in that regard.

FoA have done all they can with the i6, they used it for over 70 years for god sake!
