Default OW! that didnt sound right?

pat (EDXR6T) was tryin to start the car, but wouldnt crank over because it haddent been started for a while, in the garage atm, so he went to start it again but all of a sudden we see this glow from the battery, he had the dam charger hooked up to it :S

after that happened, switched her off, and the lights came on in the car, and the areal started rewinding itself, then turned the key, and everything went off, try crank it over, but nothing, then turned it off again and we heard something shorting behind the dash ( was that red box just above the handbreak, i thinks) and after it stop shorting, lights came back on and the areal went back at it.

has he blown something here, its really not good, and prity worried, we have a spare red box, should we just switch it over?

He hasnt got the terminals on the wrong way has he?

Blue box is the BEM, controls the electrical features.
Central locking, aerial etc

ED BEM is green, and sits next to and behind the radio. ED Smartlock is Red.

In an EF/EL, the BEM is blue.

To remove the BEM in an ED, take the radio facia off, and there is one single screw top right behind the facia. Before undoing this, unplug the BEM plugs from behind the dash, unscrew the screw at the front right corner, and pull it out from under/next to the hardbrake.

If funny things are happening, such as aerial, climate and trip computer lighting, dash lighting, interior lighting, etc, it's most likely the BEM, and this controls all of that.

Not entirely correct im affraid.
Low series EBII and ED have a blue, one plug BEM. High series EBII/ED has a Green one with two plugs.
EF/EL has three different ones.

Is the fuel pump humming a few seconds before startup??

check the wires leading to the starter too.. Also, could even be your earth wires shorted.....
