Sorry to hear about your loss Sam. It's always hard when you lose such a close family member.
I went through a similar experience back in 2005 when my father passed away from liver cancer at the ripe old age of 58. To sit there in the hospital room and watch my father's body shut down and take it's last breath is a memory that will never leave me.
Having said that, I also cherish all the other memories I had of him when he was alive. Us growing up as kids and having him as our mentor, role model and father. It's been 6 years now and never a day goes by where I don't think of him, but the pain of the loss eases eventually. Those days after my father's death is a blur to me due to the grief I felt at the time, but things eventually return to some form of normality.
Just remember, you have a whole lot of friends and family to talk to if you need, not to mention this lot here on AFF.

Condolences to you and your family. No matter how old, or how sick someone is, the actual death is always a shock, no matter how prepared we think we are. Look back fondly on all of the memories, find comfort that she's now in peace and spend as much time with your family and father. Time will make it easier, even though it won't seem that way now. Eventually as time passes and the grief wanes, you will smile every time you think of her.

I lost my grandfather at the start of this year, and it does help to talk to people, I even put up a post on here for him, so you're not alone mate

Nothing is going to make it easier, only time, but she's living on through you, the son she gave birth to and raised.

Rally around your dad, we pretend to be tough and able to handle anything but after witnessing my own father, a man who I have rarely seen cry in my life unable to control himself after the funeral, it's really hit home just how little we are all prepared for it, and how well hide what's inside.

I'm very sorry for your loss mate, condolences to you and the family, may your mum live on in your memories.

Sam, my sincere condolences.

I lost my father last September and this thread has brought me to tears again. I remember at the time that my world had turned upside down and ripped my guts out. It never gets easy, but as time goes on, it becomes easier to deal with.
Be there for your family and always let it out.

RIP Sams Mum.

I know what you are going through, lost my Brother this week. My mum died from a medical condition about 30 years ago when I was 15.

At times, you need to be strong and in charge, other times to let the emotions have sway. You need to let the emotions run their course - by talking about it to people and at other times grieving on your own in your own way. I've just started crying while writing this to be honest.

As time goes on, you will adjust and the pain will subside. This is not neglecting your mum's memory, but adapting to what is part of life's cycle.

PM me if you want.
Andrew.
