They look really good .. So sad to think the mighty birds will be racing for the last time on the Mountain tomorrow but it's been a hellava ride for them .

So many great memories but there'll always be a bit of Falcon every year racing in October because they're unforgettable . Let's hope the Mustangs do the blue oval justice over the coming years as all us Ford fans hope they do .

Any Ford Falcon winning or on the podium tomorrow will be celebrated for sure .

Me too. You know it's mighty tempting to just go grab an XR-6 for the looks alone. So cheap...

Didn't even watch last year or miss it, this one has grabbed me for some reason, even the wife has watched a bit. (never shows interest in it) Maybe its the better coverage over here, Sky has one channel set aside, four full days with lots of old races/info filling the gaps.

And don’t the fakeadores look like crap. The rear end of them looks like an old Taurus.

Is there any requirement that they must use a current model body design?

This will more than likely be THE last "Aussie" car race at Mt Panorama. A huge pity as it was a highlight??

The end of the Aussie car and a HUGE loss to Australian manufacturing. I just hope people vote with their dollars and start buying Mercedes and BMW's instead of the unfair fare coming from GM, Ford and Toyota. They sucked this country dry (especially GM) for 50+ years and then deserted the ship. I owe no allegiance to them and would rather spend my money elsewhere.

I would like to see the Federal Gov get rid of the industry protection and other exorbitant prices for imported cars and parts but, I'm not holding my breath.

I guess what I’m asking is, is there any reason they can’t continue running a Falcon for a few more years?

THE MIGHTY FORD FALCON ....Third is okay today..at least no GM clean sweep.

1967 , 1970 , 1971 , 1973 , 1974 , 1977 , 1981

1994 , 1998 , 2006 , 2007, 2008 , 2013 and 2014 ..

Not too shabby .

Congrats to Lowndes and Richards of course but even Lowndes'y would appreciate that the dear old Falcon has played a major role in his career , not least the Mountain .

I'll always want Ford badged competitors to do well , naturally , but a little bit will wane now after the last Ford Falcon FGX crosses the line in Newcastle.

With any sort of luck Scotty /Shell V Power will sign her off with a championship title . That'd do us now I reckon..

With the falling Australian dollar imported goods will all become more expensive.

When you think about it we only have great times ahead - Ford Mustang with the backing of Ford Performance. We'll cream Holden/GM for the foreseeable future. And then there's the huge over-the-counter catalogue of FP parts that the USA has been used to for the last 60 years that is starting to proliferate through local dealerships.

I'm just not seeing any downside

It's all how you look at it I suppose .

Although resemblance only , at least the Falcon did actually offer a V8 power plant while it was sold . The ZB Commodore and Nissan Altima do not .

Same next year , Mustang is primarily a V8 and sells mostly as that . The GT350 and GT350 R come with the 5.2 litre flat plane crank engine capable of revving to 8200 rpm too ..That'd be as much or more than a real Supercar race engine giving a bit more resemblance to an actual car albeit Australia will most likely not see the 5.2 litre V8's any time soon .

The Falcon made it 1 year longer than the Commodore at Bathurst, when you look at the FWD Insignia the Holden now portrays.

Will we ever have a V8 Camry supercar to look forward to? That’d be exciting, especially for Mr Fiji.

And poor Reynolds with his leg cramp. Though I’m sure Tahan will massage out any remaining cramps he may have tonight

Their natural good looks are exponentially enhanced by how god-awful the Commodores look .... I'm not a Holden hater but those things look just boring even in race livery with V8s stuffed in them.

Australian Story over a decade ago since it was aired.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zIGYczAuZCE

Craig Lowndes . A few days after he clinched his 7th Bathurst some might have varying opinions on him but this episode of Australian Story tells me that he'll always have a bit of a soft spot for the ol' Ford Falcon . Til the day he falls off the perch the 2006 win will be probably one of the very special moments of his illustrious career . Then adding two more for the three peat pretty special too.

This is a great little episode of a fantastic Australian show ..

I'm still angry with him for throwing away the win in 2005.

Ye i was loving the final FGX's doing the full race without many problems really from what i saw from the start then the last 10 laps.

Problem is.....These V8 Supercars underneath are NOTHING like the original factory made cars.....Engines, trans, driveline and suspension are ALL nearly the same as each other from what i've been told???

Nothing like...................The Good Old Days (Like D.J in the V4 Turbo'd Cosworth Sierra....I'll never forget that race!!!)

Up until this point Fords run short deck Windsors with Yates D3 heads.

Last I heard Holdens ran SB2.2s in accepted displacement.

Anything can happen, but pretty sure a Coyote will power the Mustangs next year.

With the power constrictions it really doesn't matter either way.

DJR and Tickford have both confirmed they are continuing with their current respective engine programs next year. No Coyote.

Thanks.

It's (short deck Windsor and D3s) a potent package.

Maybe even better for chassis dynamics.

In the last years of Trans-Am, though long ago, put weight exactly where things belonged. the GM cars were allowed to run any cylinder head they wanted, even the Pro Stock Truck and C/A heads and the Ford chassis dynamics resulted in more than a match.

Inline 4, I don't think Cosworth ever did a V4.
