Default Aussie Factory Built Big Block

I have been told there is a well documented Aussie built car
that has a 428ci fitted from factory other than the mighty
Bill Bourke spec XW GT. I have no idea what it could be,my
resource will not give me any other info about it except it's
-it has a 428ci
-Aussie built
-thoroughly documented
-it's NOT the Bourke car

it's left me stumped,I have no idea.....Galaxie maybe?

Possibly the promotion built XB's. They were eventually sold off minus big blocks and with 351 as the replacement motor.

Wayne Draper XB coupe/s (2 I think). Not factory or promotional, just a spare-time exercise and was returned to small block shortly afterwards.

Wasn't the Bill Bourke car built in the US?

The Bourke car was built at Broadmeadows as a plain jane XW GT,
it was then shipped to Detroit to be modified.

I forgot to mention, the car is still getting around...unrestored....whatever it is.

I think most of us know a fair bit about the Bill Bourke car, but for those who don't, here's a brief history ... http://www.garageofawesome.com.au/in...bourke-special

How about the HRT 427? 7.0l is damn close to 428ci, the 427 stood for the claimed power.

I don't think it was the SOHC engine...
Simply the 427 FE.... Ford-Edsel.

Nothing wrong with that Monaro, at least GM were having a go.

There were two XB Coupes that were fitted with big Blocks by workers at Ford, back in the day. It was a little side project they did in their spare time, and they were Ford Exec/managers cars.

There was a write up in a car mag about it years ago.

I seem to remember one was yellow and one was blue (might be wrong on this colour thing though)

I believe they were returned to factory spec before being sold off.

There was also a lot of Big Block conversions done back in the 80's by farmers towing horse floats and the like, many were done at places like Ford Muscle Parts as part of a drive in drive out rebuild.

Also believe the XB coupe experiment was with 385 series (429s) not FE (427/428)?

So really the Bourke car wasn't factory Australian either.
from that era was the FE engine I think these are all American Built

True, the car started life as a 351w auto XW GT, but was modified while still in Foa possession in Detroit which in a way makes it the next best thing to factory built.

Don't rely on Wikipedia for that. The Thunderbird wasn't a performance car. I seriously doubt any were made with the 427, and there were zero production cars (of any model) built with the 427 SOHC. The vast majority of Thunderbirds of that vintage had a 390. The 428 (non-Cobra Jet version) became available for 1966.

In the book on kar kraft in the USA they have a section on the bill Bourke special and also an xw Ute they did ?so two xw,s.theres a bitabout the sedan but There’s not much about the Ute but the author said It did exist as he did drive it .
I wonder if it was ever returned to Australia or stayed there ?
How rare would that be to find ?

That is correct. The Draper coupes were 429's. And from memory had GT429 decals on the front guards in place of the GT351 versions.

Never heard anything about a big block ute.
