I'm looking for a Perth BF falcon know it all. My father is also a member of this forum, and mentioned a knowledgable bloke on here who offered him assistance in the recent past.

Willing to offer payment.

Just don't want to take it to a dealer, only to pay some apprentice to learn the ropes on my vehicle at $125 an hour. I'm in Wanneroo but can travel to you.

Hi,
What's wrong with your ute?
I know of several workshops in the northern suburbs with very experienced specialists / technicians. Have you got actual examples of dealer not being efficient while repairing your vehicle? I fix most things DIY myself, but some times it is jobs I know require particular tools, or are much quicker to do at a hoist than in my backyard. I have very positive experiences with some of the places I have booked in my vehicles.
Unfortunately WA is a very 'licensed' place, where a private individual could get into a lot of trouble for assisting a stranger with paid services for looking at your car. If you were not 100% satisfied and decided to visit for example consumer protection or Department of Transport afterwards, then the private individual could very easily get investigated / charged with running an unlicensed business etc.
These days when some already existing professional businesses are struggling with less in their order book, I think it is fair to use them. Some times there are 'specials', for example one of the suspension shops recently did a full check of suspension and brakes my car, it took them nearly an hour, the report was very detailed, and the charge for this service was less than $30. Any private person wouldn't have all the fancy equipment they used. Cheers

Well there is nothing wrong as such, just a few items I'm concerned about....

I've got a bit of a rough idle, which is probably going to be plugs or leads or both as I have no idea when they were last changed.

Got a few electrical connectors unplugged between the air box and what I believe is the lpg brain.

Got a oil leak, which I hope is a rocker cover, cause it's accumulating around the bell housing.

I'm a bit handy, and to tell the truth, I'll probably fix most stuff in my garage also. But just wanted a second more falcon like opinion.

Hi again Luke,
the coils are known to fail on the BA/BFs. These are coils directly on each plug, so you have no leads as such. You get a set of 6 new coils on Ebay for less than an hour labour at the workshop, so it could be worth a try to put in a new set of both plugs and coils yourself to see if that fixes it. A more scientific approach would be to diagnose each coil with the Ford IDS tool to find out which one of the 6 is not keeping up.

For your LPG concerns, I would recommend having it serviced by a true specialist on LPG systems, unfortunately he is located a bit far south, but If you took the trip down to see The Car Doctor in Port Kennedy (near Rockingham), your car would be in the safe hands of one of the most experienced LPG shops in WA. http://www.thecardoctor.com.au/

After you have serviced the coils / plugs, I would consider going to BPT Motorsport, (Wangara), and ask them to do a power run on their Dyno. For a small fixed amount (used to be approx. $80) they will put your car on the rolling road (Dyno tester) and give you a print-out of KW, torque, emissions / mixture under load, misfiring, etc. This will give a lot of information of how well it is running, and confirm it is operating as it should.
To have the Dyno power run done is well worth the cost of it I think.
The technicians at BPT are not young, and more experienced than the average Ford dealer technician. (some of them are former Ford dealer employees, now working for PBT).

Some oil leak on an engine that has done that amount of Km as yours isn't uncommon. Is it 'dripping' or just sweating a little? Have you tried pressure washing it away and see where it re-appears first?

Could you give us the name of the suspension shop that charged $30 fo suspension check and report.

I went to their Osborne Park branch less than 2 weeks ago, but it's probably the same special deal at their other branches as well.

First step is to replace the spark plugs. The dedicated gas motors need healthy spark plugs.

I've been using Bosch FR 7KPP 33 U+ plugs, but taxi workshops use the Ford ones.

Just checked and Pedders still have that $28 deal on, so I might get them to do the report, but from all the reviews I've read they are quite expensive with their work, I find that is the case with most franchisees as there is too many in the food chain, your better off getting someone that operates their own business and paying one person.
