Default Wagon - XR or Fairlane, what's your poison?

Good evening my fellow AU brethren.

I'm going to embark on an AU station wagon journey in the near future, however I need to decide which direction to head.

The vehicle in question isn't in my possession yet, but it will be an AU station wagon.
Preferably an AU2 or AU3, however that's not mandatory as one which may be coming my way is an AU1.

The state of the car isn't particularly important right now, as I have a plan for it.

This is where you guys come in.

I also have 2 donor cars here, an AU2 XR6, and an AU3 Fairlane Sportsman Ghia.
Both of these cars are for the most part complete, but not roadworthy.

My plan is to convert the yet to be acquired AU wagon into either a fully fledged XR, or Fairlane. When I say fully fledged, I know this still won't be the genuine article, however to me it will be.

Really it's just the interior, dash, and front panels that will be changed, but that's still a reasonable enough task for a couple weekends.

My question to you is, what do you feel would be more unique/desirable?

I have my preference, I'd like to know yours.

Ideally the colour will be liquid silver, as the 2 donor cars are, and it will be an I6.
It will receive some minor mods such as extractors, exhaust, etc, but nothing major.
This will basically be as if it went down the line at Ford.

Please cast your vote and leave thoughts.

Edit - I should point out, that whichever way this goes, all the components from the respective donor car, will be fitted.
Front end, seats, dash, door trims, engine, ECU, BEM, etc.
As said above, I'll make this as Ford intended, not some dodgy half hearted conversion.

Fairlane wagon..!
Put the front end on too..
You don't see many late model Fairlane fronted wagons, but you do see a lot of XR fronts.

You could also follow the two-tone theme from the sportsman on the wagon and I don't believe it would look out of place..

My opinion is fairly biased though..

While another XR wagon would be great, I've love to see something really different, and I love Fairlanes, so my vote is for Fairlane!
Eager to see your wagon project take place, Sox!

XR with 'lane dash and interior. You know it makes sense. The 'lane front end would throw the rest of the AU lines imo

3/1 to the Fairlane, the lone XR is me.

Keep em' coming guys, perhaps a Fairlane isn't such a bad thing, considering I have 2 bona fide XR's anyhow...

I forgot to vote lol. I was honestly thinking of a XR wagon over the weekend - VCT, modified Rebel rear bar, manual, Tickford suspension height... sorta like this

stay away from the S1 the later model were quite different and much better. many parts from your donor car won't work in a S1 either
I voted for the lane because it will be a 6. if toy were going an 8 I would have said XR all the way AN XR8 wagon with the 220 would be a sweet ride.
either will be a distinctive wagon as a six the Fairlane is a clear cut winner

Lane front with TL50 lip and TS50 wagon sides from fibresports. Add big wheels and it'll be a sic cruiser!

Yeh I know all the differences between the AU1 and AU2/3, but the AU1 that may become available has already had a lot of work done to it by yours truly, so I know it well.
It was my folks car, which got passed on to my brother.

Whichever way I go, it will be subtle, no extra lips or body kits.
It will also have standard 5 spoke XR wheels, or Fairlane wheels.

Remember gents, this will be as Ford intended, nothing radical...

No, just silver.

This is the Fairlane donor.

I decided that one is just too rough to keep going, and it has a reasonable amount of rust that I don't want to deal with, so it makes the perfect donor as it's 100% complete.

I've seen a Fairlane wagon and it does take a little getting used to and the front can look a little big. But the one I saw was gold and standard height which made the 'lane front look too big. Having said that, and if I was in a position to do what you are doing I'd do the full Fairlane Sportsman deal including the 2 tone paint, skirts, lowered a bit, Elegance wheels, VCT 6, full dash and wiring loom and full interior, plus find a Fairlane boot spoiler and fit it too the top of the tailgate to balance the look. If you're going to do it - do it properly! , Oh wait, I do now have 2 Sportsmans and a S2 Wagon, hmmmmmmmmmm , i wonder if the missus would let me get away with it.

Seems i'm always at odds with the general concensus...

Normally i'd definitely go with luxury over sport, but I just don't see the bold, heavy-looking fairlane front end suiting the humpy, low-rent rear end of the wagon.

That silver wagon above is excellent, as was JC's old XR-fronted AU wagon of about 7 years ago.

As to the question of what is more unique? Well, the fairlane wagon, but as to what is more desirable? I'd say the XR.

However from the firewall back i'd have it has luxo as possible.
