LOL...Blown up Volvo XC90 running on LPG!!!

Was filling up my Bf Wagon on Saturday afternoon and i could hear a car trying and trying to start but no go.

Just as i heard this i noticed an RACV vehicle driving in and stopping right next to a late model Volvo XC90 with........LPG stickers on the plates!!!!

Straight away i thought.....

RACV guy gets out and the lady owner starts telling him her story so they pop the bonnet.

I walked past and had a quick look from 2 metres away and could'nt really see much but i did say 'Never seen a Volvo on Gas Before' as I walked into pay for fuel.

Just then the RACV guy started it and it was really Knocking bad while running.

Sounded like gudgeon pin knock to me.

What i dont get is WHY ANYONE would bother converting a latish model 5 Cylinder XC90 to Gas???

I presume your talking 1st Gen which could be anything from 2002 to 2014.
are you sure it had the 2.5L 5 cylinder petrol, most likely had the 4.4L V8 if they converted it to gas.

a lot of SUV's were converted to gas around 2007 when there were great rebates, normally paying for itself with 6 months.

Way too small for a big motor.

I'd say it was 1st gen 2.5 5cylinder.

But seriously....If you can afford to buy an XC60/90....WHY The **** would you convert it to Gas!!!!

Should have told the owner to go buy an LPG Falcon!!!

Years ago saw a early 90s Daihatsu Charade sedan on gas... here to Darwin for a big mac meal $....

Could also have been the inline 6.

You can get XC90s from about $4000 on Carsales so you hardly need to be a millionaire to own one.

Back then they may have only forked out $1200 to get it converted, as I said all paid for itself in 6 months and it would have been cheaper to run than a Camry.
no different from me getting my Territory converted at the time

I don't see an issue, other than the fact it sounds the the Volvo has Kaked it.. which is unfortunate

Yep it sure has with a bad gudgeon pin...(thats full engine replacement/rebuild time which = $$$$$.......LOL!!!!

An EcoLPI Territory would have done the same job.

Same SUV style car....Big boot like a Wagon and higher ground clearance too!!!

Usual pattern of cr4p that runs rife with a good majority of members on this forum nowadays.

Why? as I stated above its probably been on the car for 10 years, and provided cheap motoring, all that time

LPG in now way would have contributed to a worn wrist pin, but you would know that being a mechanic.

PS there was never an ECO LPI Territory. they need to be converted in the same way - no different

Volvo in other markets offered factory LPG in certain models so its not like the Volvo+LPG idea hasn't been done before.
