Default 6 cylinder cars

Since ford and Holden Toyota closing Aussie production what choice of 6 cylinder cars will there be? We had falcon, commodore, aurion - It seems the sixes will become extinct

There will still be a Commodore V6 when the all-new, Insignia-based model comes out. Camry will have a V6 and then there is Kia's upcoming Stinger turbo V6. Not too certain if Honda's next-gen Accord will still offer one - that car should be revealed in the next few months.

There are plenty of 6 cylinder cars in the market currently with the ~3.0L V6 being the mainstay of the medium/large class vehicles.

They aren't too lacking for power either with choices including the Chrysler 300's 3.6-litre V6 that makes 210kW / 340Nm; the Honda Accord 3.5-litre V6 with 206kW / 339Nm; Mercedes C350 3.5-litre V6 at 225kW / 370Nm; Subaru Liberty 3.5-litre V6 with 191 kW / 350 Nm along with numerous 3.0L+ V6 turbo-diesels in the 4x2 and 4x4 ute segments.

Cheers
Russ

Which ones? I count only one turbo-diesel 3.0 V6 in our entire ute market (Amarok), along with one petrol 4.0 V6 (HiLux)

Think you will see some changes coming in the 4wd market in the next models line up.

I doubt the next Honda Accord will drop the V6- it's the best selling non-SUV car in the states and they wouldn't want to take risks. Read a few months ago in Wheels a SkyActiv V6 is being developed since it's not about downsizing anymore, just 'right-sizing.' Also Merc's about to bring out a new straight-six and so are Jaguar, apparently.

With the exception of the US market where 6 cylinder engines have become V8 replacements, the 6 cylinder engine has gone from the mainstream engine to being the flagship powertrain in many vehicles.

I highly doubt you can find these brand new now, Volvo have moved to 4 cylinder engines exclusively. T6 is now a twincharged 4 cylinder.

Which is a pity since I have a S60 T6 with the 3.0 I6T and it's a fantastic engine.

Yeah, I hesitated when typing that one. A great shame and an intriguing mix of inline six mounted transversely. That and inline 5's and a transverse mounted V8 gave Volvo a point of difference.

Don't forget that Mercedes announced a year or so ago that they will be dropping their V6 for the I6 power plant due to efficiency gains.

Perhaps this should have been your Thread title, because its actually quite Valid.
Currently for new Fords in Australia it jumps from the Rangers 5cyl to Mustangs V8. no 6's
For the future there could be a 6 the in Ranger?

But we seem to be missing out on those awesome Ecoboost v6 engines available elsewhere.
