Default Mountune Aus - No news, is no news

I was reading some old threads about Mountune coming to Aus in partnership with Ford.

I thought I would follow up with them to see if it is getting any closer.

But still not much moving. Response below 2 days ago.

Hi Wayne,

Thank you for your inquiry.

We understand there’s a lot of interest in the mountune range of products and as a company, we’re continuing to work with Ford to make mountune available in Australia.

As you will understand, there’s a lot of Australian-specific validation work to be worked through with Ford and once we’ve done this we’ll be in a position to update our customers.

Best regards,

David Moore

The OZ specific stuff has been going on for about 18mths or more now. Don't hold your breath.

Still be cheaper to buy from the UK than the local stuff if it gets here.
Doubt it will be any easier given my experience with them while living in the UK

We were talking about this 6 years ago when I first bought my WS Fiesta and was looking into Mountune upgrades, I doubt they are coming here.

I honestly don't think that it will ever happen. They had been saying they would be here by the last 1/4 of 2014, but that has come and gone!
The Cat back exhaust & Down pipe were supposed to get released in Sept 14, but that never happened and I am still waiting! I have found that their parts are very well made and relatively easy to install.
Here's a run down on what I have aquired over the last 12 months or so -
Installed:
Mountune MP215 Tune
Mountune air intake
Mountune front mount intercooler
Mountune boost pipes
Mountune induction pipe
Mountune short shifter
Mountune sport springs
Mountune wing extensions
Mountune boot & floor mats
Mountune gear gaiter
Mountune shift knob
Mountune roll restrictor (RMM)
To be installed:
Mountune coolant hoses - requires draining coolant and getting to awkward clamps, too much effort for 0 gains.

As you can see from my list, I like Mountune parts, however their customer service is rather poor, both pre sale & post sale support. Also with the releases of the facelifted 2015 FoST, the new mustang, new GT and upcoming RS, Mountune will be focusing on developing parts for those lines. Not to mention their partnerships with the BTCC focus team, the Olsbergs MSE rally cross team, and an Asian touring cars focus team. They are a busy bunch!

I do have a build thread on another forum, for any that haven't seen it, here's a link:

Its very hard to see who are at fault or moreso who is the hold up. I think its FoA TBH. I have all the hardware to go 275PS on my Focus ST, just not the handset.

There is one of each of the ST twins in OZ with full MT gear for evaluation/testing but as above it was to be late 2014. There were even crapping on about stuff being made available for the MK2 Focus ST/RS here. That time has come and gone as almost all are out of warranty.

Sounds like the general consensus is it ain't going to happen. I would have paid a bit extra if it didn't have the potential to void the warranty. It hasn't stop me ordering stuff, with a Mountune short shifter & roll restrictor (RMM) on the way. Your install list looks pretty much like my wish list or to do list. The top of my wish list is the conversion rate of Aus dollar to pound to improve.
Enjoyed reading your thread from the other forum.

Yes that exchange rate is very poor at the moment.
As far as warranty stuff goes, it is a common misconception that all modifications void your warranty. This is not true!
I have had my scissor jack replaced under warranty as it failed when I was using it to put the car on jack stands. The Dealer knows my car is modded, as it had been in for service. But no issue with warranty replacement.
Only certain parts, which are directly related to the modifications will loose warranty cover. For example you install a new air intake, 1 week later a rear wheel baring fails and a wheel falls off, there is no direct relationship between the air intake and a wheel baring, therefore it will be covered by warranty. However fit a new air intake and your turbo fails, there will be no warranty cover as intake feeds directly into turbo.

I have spoken to a friend of mine who is a engineer at Fomoco and not one thing of mountunes has been presented to, or requested, for validation or any other form of assessment by the engineers at Fomoco Aus. Furthermore he believes that most of mountunes stuff could validated for Australia thru a paperwork trail only, he believes that either
1. there is no intention of it ever happening or
2. the main sticking point could be be the argument over who is responsible for what warranty wise and/or costs of training dealers to fit mountune products which would have to happen for it to go ahead as a factory backed dealer fit arrangement as originaly suggested

so I have just about given up on it and will probably just go down the pumaspeed route if I decide to go further that the cat back I have already got.

Id like to point out that while mountune does stuff for these cars that is sold well in europe there are plenty of performance parts available from plenty of local businesses that are the equal to mountune.
Mountune is just a fancy garage that got into performance and did well and has traded of that success. Try the local guys too.

Yes they are a fancy garage, a fancy garage that does performance enhancements that are Warranty approved by Ford Europe, UK, US and according to my source, signed off for Australia. More details to follow.
For many, new car warranty is important, you do pay for it as part of your purchase, not too many fancy garages are manufacturer approved.
Pumaspeed would already have my money if not for the warranty thing.

Already signed off eh? Well where's the more info.
I do agree I'd prefer to keep my warranty. I have the hardware I just want the handset. If you know a little bit, come on spill already.

I mentioned my disappointment at the unavailability of mountune parts on my post sale survey. November last year I received a call from the Ford customer care line asking me about it and stating that an announcement was going to be made around Christmas time. Obviously nothing came of it, but at least it gives me hope that something is happening at Ford to try and get it out to us.

I've been running MP215 for almost exactly a year now. I'm so glad I didn't wait.

I remember at the Pacific Ford show day in August last year, one of the sales guys mentioned they'd been down in Victoria testing a Mountune-equipped Focus, so it's definitely on the cards...

However, as usual, Ford Australia isn't concerned with doing anything to help push sales, or assist existing customers... and Mountune itself is no better...

Didn't think it was ever going to happen but there you go. Pretty pricey but I guess your paying for the warranty one way or another

Might get the mp215 done mid year

Just did a comparison between fords price and ordering direct from mountune's price for the mp215 kit and fords price is $2327.50 including gst and fitting, direct from mountune it is $1407 including delivery but not including gst which you may or may not get hit with depending on your luck, this also does not include fitting but ford quotes 1 hr for the job and anyone slightly handy with tools should be able to manage it. So if you are like me and almost out of warranty (89000k) it might be better to go direct to mountune and use the left over cash on other mods such as new intercooler or in my case a milltek cat and dump pipe to go with my catback

... or buy it from a Mountune dealer in the UK and get them to undervalue the invoice, which Mountune itself refuses to do...

After a long and frustrating wait, it looks like the MP215 kit will finally be released to Ford Dealers on 27th July.(cross fingers) Quite expensive, but I have a 5 year warantee.

Why such a wait (thought it was originally going to be April) when they have been readilly available overseas for such a long time?

In anticipation I have ordered some new mags (Koya SF-02) and a Triple R Composites splitter.

No that's not true, the only way Ford Australia will cover the warranty is if you purchase from a Ford Dealer in Australia. This way they can ensure the know the true source of the product. Ford don't even cover genuine Ford parts which people buy from the US or UK from there or here etc. They have to protect themselves from counterfeit parts etc.

fair enough, is there a link or something we can use? If the dealer hasn't heard about it at all i doubt they're going to be ready to install them this month. I don't even know how to order it

Yes there are a few bulletins the dealers received and they do know about it. It is available through their spare parts division and is on the Ford Australia Accessories section of the web site, link below. Part number, fitted costs etc are listed there as well. if your dealer is not aware by now, suggest you go to one that does. if you are in Sydney, I can recommend one that does!!

Regarding the Australian release on the Mountune website it specifically states that the installation has to be done by the Ford Dealer you purchased the car from to retain the Ford Warranty.

The kit is ordered through your dealers spare parts section.
