Yeah obviously that is illegal, but in my case its only a small difference and it fits in perfectly with the RTA reference that Josh2 submitted, so it aint illegal iu dont think, can someone work it out for me ing_sm

Also when I was looking at 17's most of them had a higher load rating then the 15's. If I remember correctly only the bridgestones I looked at had an incorrect load rating.

mitch lx with a 50 profile ur speedo is gunna be out by a lot lol like 6% out.
Thats because no-one brings one (205/35)into the country, I'm running 205/40R17's they're only slightly too tall. I wanted 215/40's but they're way too tall. The tyres need to have a load rating of at least 80(if my memory is correct) which is the lowest rating on the placard (for 16" wheels) the stock 15's are 82 I think.

Hmmm im a bit confused now, i thought 215 is the width of the tread not a factor that determines the height!!!

This is the rules for in Vic (might be different in other states).

Rims must not be more than 25mm greater than the widest wheel specified by the vehicle manufacturer for the model or vehicle series.

Overall diameter or any replacement rim and tyre must no be more then 15mm greater then largest diameter tyre specified by the vehicle manufacturer for that model or vehicle series. They must also have a load and speed rating equal to or better than standard.

ok. :Up_to_som Heres what those numbers mean.....205/40R17....
-205:section width in millimeters, width of the tyre from the outside of the writing on one sidewall, to the other. Not just treadwidth.
-40: aspect ratio, the height of the sidewall, 40% of the section width.
-17: diameter of the wheel in inches. (the hole in the middle)

So as your width increases so does your sidewall height.

just had a quick look over at your RTA website. It's a lot easyer to read then some of the standards on the Vicroads site.

Heres the one about wheels. Very much the same as the Vicroads one. That I posted earlier.

Also
I would hate to live in NSW looks like you guys are only allowed to tint any windows to 35%. My rear windows are 5% :P

the overall diameter is more then 15mm of the original tyre and rim. My wheels are over the 15mm diameter as well.

One of the reasons I went for the ST wheels is the ford logo everyone just thinks they are an option for the car :P Cops here don't even give me a second look.

the legal limit is 25mm not 15mm in NSW. I am 99% sure on this.

25mm is the width of the rim. ie if you have 15"x6" rim on the car you have put a 15"x7" rim on and still be ok.

The 15mm is the overall diameter of the rim and tyre. ie stock 195/50/R15 is 576mm. The rims and tyres I have on my car are 205/40/R17 the overall diameter is 595.8mm which just put it over the limit at 18.8mm.

I know in QLD you can go 15mm up and 25mm down, ie. they don't care if your speedo says your going faster that what you really are. (funny really, they could raise some more revenue from speed cameras otherwise ;))
