Not another airbox mod!!!

Yes it is boys and girls.

I got bored the other day and decided that my $90 k&n filter was a waste on a car that im not using at the moment so i thought id do some hacking!! Seeing as i have some bonnet vents i thought id put them to some use at the same time. As you can see in the pics all i really did was cut the top of the box to expose the pod and also for it to fit, then get some foam (from an old couch cusion lol) and cut to size to make a sort of seal with the bonnet. So in theory im getting air from the snorkell and also sucking some from the bonnet vent. It would be better if the vent was facing the other way because they are more set uo for heat extraction but hey it seems to do the job. Oh yeah its still in the see how it goes stage if i do like it ill make it all nice and pretty!!!

Whaddya think?

You can sort of see the guts of it under the vent

Good idea though, and it must work, pretty sure the sequiential scoops are like that.

Looks good. I'd use that foam as a template to make some better looking rubber/foam seal.

The vents face backwards so theres not too much chance of rain getting in (hopefully)

I was thinking about goin to clark rubber or something and get them to cut something up for me maybe.

Haha sorry Walkinshaw ive still got the bits i cut out you can have them for memories if ya want lol!!!

hmm Id say even some mesh that has biggish gaps..will stop leaves and things, and should break up any rain drops that get in.

Just watch yourself when washing the car...lol

edit: perhaps a drain hole is a good idea too, you never know!

Airbox should already have a drain hole in the bottom of it...

She is an oil filter.

I think its a "moffart" vent or "seiera" vent (i think theyre the same thing) most bodykit places stock them like ssv etc...
heres a pic (i swear its an EB its just an EA bonnet lol)

it should work quite well, as when you are moving, air going over the bonnet will create a vacuum thru the vent, which will in turn suck air thru the original tickford snorkel. so cold air will be sucked past the filter.
the air won't be forced into the filter, but there will be a constant supply of cool air (whilst the car is moving).

I wish i never sold that car :( lol

Yeah i forgot about the whole vacuum thing!! Looks like i just have to keep her movin lol!!

cheers for that.. i was looking at getting some vents.. and those look like the ones i was looking at.. wanted to see what they looked like on the car... coz the description made them sound huge... thanks heaps...

Hey mate I have a similar mod (sequential scoop on a el).

I would advise you to try and point your filter down a little bit, maybe by extending the tube inside with an adapter or something. You have side of the filter pointing up, and the rain is going to just soak it. Driving may not the issue, but parking your car in the rain will be.

The EF/EL air boxes already have a small drain hole in bottom of them, but make sure your's does just incase.
Even though the foam dosnt look good, it will work very well to seal it!

Cheers for all the possitive feedback guys, I had a feeling i was gonna hear the good ol "rice" term thrown round a bit, maybe i should take the vent off and put the pod through the bonnet then ill be hearing some ricey comments lol. Anyway now that i am a man of leasure (got the ar$e the other day

) ive got some time to muck around with it and make it a litte prettier!!.

WOW! Functional bonnet vents! I like!

IT looks like its very effective, but along with others, rain could be an issue..

Id get the cut out middle piece of rubber(or get more) and replace it when it starts raining. Sure it will be a pain in the ИИИИ but www.bom.gov.au should help you out a bit.

Well i had my first experience with rain today and i was quite supprised on how little rain got in. But it was pretty light so i probably will take some of the advise on board and make up some kind of easy cover for it. ill keep you guys updated with the progress.

A bit of water never hurt any motor. Dont stress about it. eg. water injection.
