Default Ba prem sound with added subs

Gday guys,
Just after some advice,I have a ba xr6 with prem sound, but had a high-lo converter spliced in and running my subs, signal wire from the cigarette lighter.
It seems my system will be bassy then all of a sudden its not as bassy, but then when i turn up the bass control on the factory unit it'll kick back in?
Im on my 2nd amp and it seems to be fine for a few weeks, with no problems at all, then just start doing it again?
Any ideas?

Thanks Mark

Also could you tell me if the factory amp runs just the subs or rear speakers and sub?

Cheers.
Had a play with it the other day, seems when they installed my old amp the 4guage was too big for the terminals so theyve cut it down.Just stripped it back and re done it, seems to be all ok now.

Do your speakers still work fine? i am thinking of doing the same in my ute. have considered spliceing into the speaker wiring but didnt want to loose power or quality in the speakers
