Haha no my sales contract is written in blood!

I’m gonna get myself one of them nifty adjustable tow hitches I’ve always wanted. This just gives me justification.

I've purchased 3 XLTs and they've all been delivered with a hitch, ball, and D shackles.

D shackles yes also, the tow ball your dealer would have supplied and either absorbed the cost or charged you on the sales invoice.

I know they don't have the ball from factory as when we change over our cars we have to swap the tow ball over from the last vehicle. To save costs in our case $20 odd per car does add up for the amount of cars in the fleet.

I have had the opportunity this weekend to drive a late prototype Raptor. I put a tape measure on the tub and I can confirm that the press release and web site are talking BS. interior length of the loadbox is 1430mm

nvh and refinement is great. easy lift tailgate and central locking tailgate are great. lights are definitely better than the current model. the powertrain definitely feels much better than the specs on paper would have you believe.

Any other interesting details to report? I’m actually really interested in hearing an honest opinion from someone other than a journalist.

How do the seats feel? It seems very quiet in a lot of the videos once you shut the door.

The easy lift tailgate is a head trip. You just about throw the tailgate through the tray the first time you close it cause its so light. You don’t expect it to feel like it weighs 10% of what it really does.

And the refinement of the bi-turbo is much improved over 3.2. Loses the gravellyness so prelevant in the I5, especially off idle. Can feel it as soon as you start it.

the front seats are really supportive.

in fact the whole driveability with coils springs in the rear is great. the back jumps around way less when unladen and it soaks up the crappy tarmac around here really well. I didn't go off road but on unsealed roads it really smoothed them out. cornering is much more positive and there is much less body roll then on the standard leaf spring car.

I really don't think you'll be disappointed.

I'm one of the forum viewers who has a RR on order and haven't been active in the forum. I'm sure there are a few others.
I currently have a 2012 Wildtrak which has suited my needs well. I used to tow a 3 tonne boat as well as a few other things.
Now I have no need for this capacity. My needs are going bush without a trailer and lots of country road driving and even more city driving. Possibly a camper trailer in the future.

Whilst it would be nice to have more power it is not critical fore me. In my Wildtrak I am always ahead of the traffic without trying so if the RR is equal or better I'm happy(showing my age I suppose).

For me the suspension is the big seller. Judging by the Car Advice poll the Raptor wins out over the V6 Merc after 2000 votes, so it seems off road ability wins out over traffic light drags. Pity we can't have both!

The accolades for it's off road handling are hard to believe so it will be interesting to see how good it really is. Judging by the driving impressions above it is looking good : )

At least it is faster than a land Rover Defender at 17 seconds for the 0-100.

The dealer has told me arrival in port last week August with delivery a few weeks later.

Congrats mate, having external canister coil overs makes for wonderful off road use hands down. Its not journo talk.

In due respect, the article does not give any criteria, and neither vehicle is on the road here yet.. the X350D will be next year..
so what did the 2000 voters judge on? looks?

Edit I see it was from a facebook Poll..so..

On an unrelated note, looking into insurance options.

Does anyone use club 4x4? I'm really interested because they have recovery insurance and cover you anywhere in Australia. Are there any other alternative companies?

None of the companies have the raptor loaded in to their system yet so it's hard to get a quote.

Not to mention that the Raptor is in a league of its own for factory off road capabilities and yet only held a 10% margin over a run of the mill dual cab in a vote.
Of the 2000 people polled, 900 would rather a basic package than spend a few more k on a cutting edge Raptor.
I'd say it is far from a convincing win.

Feck me, social media has a lot to answer for lol.......
and what a comparo - a purpose built off roader to a premium std 4x4 offering, might as well pump up the price of Wildtrak and have it join the party.
This is endorsement plus.

I drove a 2.0 XLT back to back with my 3.2 and would chose the 2.0 now. The power and performance are very close as you'd assume from the specs, but the refinement of the 2.0 wins hands down.

these were late proto test cars. I don't think they reach dealers until next month.

I wonder if the 2.0 to 3.2 in ranger is comparable to say the 2.2 twin turbo in the new navara to the old 3.0 in the dmax? The 2.2 navara is horrible, has more power for about 500 or 600 revs between maybe 2500 to 3000, apart from that nothing. Its so busy, noisy and just not pleasant at all. The Dmax has a cruisy power for a much wider rev band and sure its not as peaky but so much nicer to drive. The Ford 2.0 obviously has more power but has to change gears all the time, which is ok as it has all the gears. It is meant to be more refined than the 3.2. But I would guess for me the bigger engine would be a much nicer drive. I think if you werent after the raptor, you really would have to try them both to see what you like.

Wow i thought i was the only one who thought that navara motor is absolute crap. Im a big fan of the 4jj1, My brother has a dmax with a tune only makes 200hp at the wheels and heaps of torque, would be a nice motor for the raptor actually..........

So it looks like US Ranger Raptor will have the 2.3 EcoBoost Petrol Engine. I wonder if it will be a different tune to the base model Rangers.

actually no. I've driven both in XLT and the Raptor, and the 2.0 drives exactly the same as the 3.2 You really wouldn't know if you weren't told.

the 2.0 is much more refined though. much less agricultural than the 3.2

Which begs the question... will it get a mid-life update here and be offered with the petrol engine? Time will tell.
