1300 pistons in 1600

Hi

I have a 1600 motor which has been completely stripped down. We have found a crack in the number 2 piston so we are going to purchase a new set of pistons. We are going to bore it out about 20 thou so I was wondering if I bought standard 1300 pistons if they would be alright. It's going to be a race engine so would it increase the compression ratio a lot say, 10.5 to 1? Also will the valves hit the pistons

Depends what rods you use... check www.burtonpower.co.uk for heaps of info re the 1600 x-flow, I dont have the exact specs of my engine with me atm but I have forged 1300 pistons in a 1600... I'll double check all the specs and let you know

Ok got some more info...

1300 pistons and rods will give around 10.3:1 up from 9.0:1

it is essential in this case to check for sufficient cutout in the piston crown for the valves if a hi lift cam is being used.

I have ACL Hypatech 1300 pistons, A2 cam with 296deg duration, 8.9mm v/lift rated for 3k - 7k road/rally, Oversized valves for a Holden Gemini, GT steel crank

For a race engine you can go for an A8 cam with 352 deg dur, 10.4mm v/lift, rated for 5.5k - 9.5k! full race

I am just running a mild cam. What about if i got actual standard pistons not uprated ones. Would that still raise it suffitiently??? So stick with the 1300 pistons on 1300 rods???

What sort of racing are you planning to do with a mild cam and standard pistons? You said it's going to be a race engine...

Standard 1300 pistons and rods "should" be fine... just watch your piston to valve clearance as you may need to relieve the edges of the combustion chambers on the piston crowns. its just going to be a club car/ learning to race in improved production car. i am 15 so i don't have a lot of money thats why i will prob have to go standard.
