Default AFF doing a survey???

Virus or legit???... Using the in-laws comp that's has been formatted to factory God knows how many times because 'don't click on random links in emails' just doesn't seem to sink in....

Can't say definitively but I've never seen that before.

No AFF logo or anything, seems very generic.

I say virus, phishing. DON'T TOUCH IT IMHO.

I have to agree with Raptor. I have never seen that before and if AFF was going to do a random survey from it's member base, I am sure you would have been given the heads up before hand by way of "the administrator needs you to read this thread" kind of thing. Such as Russ does whenever there is an announcement.

Absolutely a Virus but not on the AFF - on that Computer. Do not open it and you need to clean out the Computer.

Yup... thought as much. Just opened another random page and the same style of window popped up, this time talking to me offering all sorts of nice prizes...

The last time this happened the person put an administrator thingy on the computer which warned each and every time software tried to install itself..

Virus scanning now....

I know your pain....If your in-laws are like my daughter you get monthly calls along the lines of "Dad can you come and look at my PC, it's going weird"

Download and install Malwarebytes, update it and run a thorough scan. You'll be right. It seems to be more of a spyware type virus rather than something potentially harmful.

Also use SpyBot run as Administrator and CCleaner both free and get a good anti-virus.

Once a month is about right....

The FIL told me he got 3 calls from Microsoft in the last month as well regarding viruses, thank God he is a little more on the ball than the MIL and knew it to be fraud.

The MS Security Essentials found the computer to be clean. Next time I'm over I'll do the other suggestions.

Thanks,

Jason

Slightly off topic, I know, but......

I don't hang up. I play along with them, sucking them in to thinking that I am walking up to the computer, turning it on and asking for instructions. Once I've got them sucked in, I then ask them to hold the line as the doorbell has just rung, and I need to answer the door. At this point, I place the phone down on the table (not hanging up) and head off to the other end of the house to continue whatever it was I was doing prior to their call.

One time, I checked after about 15 mins and the guy was still waiting on the other end of the phone.

The other night, I got a call, did this trick. About 15 mins later got a return call, asking "what happened, you forgot about me". He even gave me his 'name'. My response: nah, mate didn't forget about you, that was deliberate. At which point he hung up

If nothing else, it at least stops them from calling the next person on their list.....
