Default Mustang GTD

Quote:
Ahead of an official reveal at Monterey Car Week, pictures of a very racey-looking Ford Mustang have surfaced. They may well be fake, or misleading, so we’ll treat them with a grain of salt.

Rumours from Ford Authority [↗] previously predicted a ‘mid-engined’ road-going Mustang like the C8 Corvette, but if the leaked images are real, they mostly put paid to those thoughts.

The GTD name comes from IMSA racing categories, it stands for GT Daytona and, according to the race series the cars "are enhanced (not defined by) technology and utilise the global FIA GT3 specification."

I assume it is in response to Jim Farley's tweet a few months back "teasing" about building a GT3 Mustang for the road, ala 911 GT3 (RS)

Dont get me wrong it totally appeals but given this segment has competitors falling by the wayside surely you would just continue into the FR platform and add some goodies.

Does it become eligible for some other class to race in if its MR? Just put more tech into the next GT350 IMO but hey if there is a market then why not I guess.

I think there is a misunderstanding with the wording around mid engined. From reports, people assumed MR when it is MF, the engine way behind the front axles.

That thing looks like what a Lebo P plater from Western Sydney would do to a 1.4L TSI VW Golf w/DSG with an American Express card at SCA, it just needs some of those stick on roo whistle things.

C'mon ! Nuthin wrong with roo whistles. Don't diss 'em. They work at keeping our fauna safe out past the burbs.
Just a shame they don't work on pedestrians who are fixated on their phones.

More here.

I actually applaud Ford for doing this. It's their 911 GT3 RS.

I like it, but not sure it’s worth double the C8 Corvette e-Ray or Z06.

Think about what this is for US$300k, a semi finished Mustang that gets transferred to MultiMac for completion.
MultiMac gets paid development costs and for every vehicle it completes, Ford makes a bomb on each vehicle without
having to do all the tricky stuff….

I'm not a fan of the wheels. I'm surprised they didn't fit carbon fibre wheels, given Ford's relationship with Carbon Revolution.

Hypothetical,
What if Ford was to do a deal with a local contractor to reverse engineer a few high series Mustangs into equivalent copies of the US GTD, maybe a manufacturer’ plate designating Australian GTD.

I know it’s out there but I wouldn’t put it past the locals to be thinking about something special for hard core fans that are willing to pay a packet for something unique.

Even if ford make only a handful of these, its their new hero/poster car that will get more people talking and into them in the future.

Credit to them to step up and officially release it!
