Are Ford window regulators crap?

Being 2nd hand warranty work, they arnt putting genuine ones in mate. They are using $30 ones from Ebay.

And just as an aside, the regulator issue really ***** me because apart from that, the ED is a great car. People have been saying I should replace it (because of the window problems) but it's a great car: plenty of power, reasonable economy, all the features I want, etc.

wow i must be one of the lucky ones

i have an 95 EF XR 8 since 2007 and when i got it the passenger side front window was a bit slow to go up but it still goes up

sometimes when its been raining it would take several attempts to go up but to this day it still goes up

i,m guessing that now i have spoken about it it will fail in a week

also btw i have never lubed the door runners or anything

who wants to buy my window winders?

yes i know people poo poo some of these earlier models.
a couple of years ago i had an interstate visitor come down in her ed falcon, she gave me a drive of it, i was bloody surprised just how great the car was to drive, brilliant visibility all around, good steering, smaller turning circle and the usual torquey falcon 6 characteristics, just my opinion, but if a worn out window regulator is the only problem i would`nt be running out to get suming else.

Are AU winders the same? I remember pulling the switches apart to clean the contacts, put them together and they worked like new again. There must be a high current going through them to carbon up like they did.

We're doing that to an AU Falcon tomorrow actually, common problem.

Evil Roy I am ****ed as well, have changed all 4 windows ED Fairmont twice in two years and now need to replace right rear again. Everything is lubricated and the faults are always the plastic guides that hold the cables or the regulator. Because I do the job myself no time to take it t ford every time not covered by warranty....I even brought the big rivet gun and the ford rivets at $4 each and you need 3 every time. I now carry spare regulators for each window as the last time I walked out in the morning and the front passenger window had just dropped down overnight. You just don't know when they are about to **** themselves...ford have told me that the product is crap from a crap supplier but won't refund me. At over $200 each I too am not very happy.

Makes me miss the old girl. She was a great car... and just never wanted to give up on life. Loved driving it. Rough as guts, but had character. (Also had wind ups all round, never replaced one in it's 19 years of service. )

My BA does not feel as lively, but is faster all the same.

Also the old mans ED Fairmont wagon, he only replaced one regulator three years ago... hasn't had a problem. Neither did the previous owner. So it's just a gremlin that hasn't been found in yours.

And any member of this forum will tell you that most Ford Genuine Parts are rubbish. Go aftermarket.
