Hi Guys,
For those on the forum that have been to previous Hardtop Anniversaries, I thought it's time for an update on next years event...and for those that haven't been, a bit of an overview. The Hardtop Anniversary is held every 2 years and is open to XA, XB, XC Falcon Coupes and Landau's. It started in 2007 as a 30th year celebration of famous 1-2 finish at Bathurst. The event is organised by the Ford Coupe Club of Australia, and because the majority of the committee live in Melbourne, the township of Echuca was originally chosen due to good weather, supportive Shire Council and business sponsors. Our first attempt netted 60 Coupes and it was such a 'blast' we decided to do it every second year! Each has been more successful than the previous and last year (2015) we had well over 100 coupes from almost every Australian State, with Tasmania and South Australia very well represented. The format is a complete weekend: Friday Afternoon meet up & check-in Saturday Motorkana, circuit or drag racing. Saturday Night Party Sunday Show & Shine Sunday Night Presentation Dinner with Guest Speaker, auction and prizes. We have been fortunate to have wonderful guests such as Allan Moffat, Murray Carter, John Goss, Jim Keogh, Kevin Bartlett, (just to name a few). Now for this year: Being the 40th Anniversary of the Famous Ford Victory, where else could we possibly hold the event but Bathurst? Without the wonderful Echuca connections, it's taking a bit of time to organise, but we're getting there.(it's like starting from scratch...) The biggest hurdle has been getting access to the track. At this stage, we've now been waiting 3 months for confirmation of which Saturday we can have in late 2017. It is most likely to be mid-late November but we need to wait for V8 Supercars to sign-off on their calendar. Once we have that, everything else can then be booked. The Museum is on the agenda, and we hope to have both Moffat & Bond there, with the cars they raced. Club Patron, Murray Carter will be there, along with others yet to confirm. So, the message is, if you're applying for annual leave next year and intend on coming to this, keep a week up your sleeve for November 2017. I'll keep you up-to-date with info and when/how to book. We hope to know something in the next fortnight. Cheers John |

Arrangements are progressing with a lot of work going on in the background. Hopefully there'll be a further update in the next few days in regard to track access on the Saturday.
The 'Sprint Event' will be conducted by the Bathurst Light Car Club, with a certain number of places allocated to the Hardtop Anniversary Participants. Details of necessary Licences, car safety requirements and approximate cost is currently being finalised, so stay tuned. Activities for Friday, Saturday and Sunday are also being confirmed.......but as King Neptune rightly pointed out............"This is going to be huge!" |
