Default heres one for you

The daughters car a LX 06 focus has some elec problems that ford (Darwin) cant fault. They say it has no codes but put it into diagnostics on the dash and you get
DTC #1 9318
#2 A103
#3 9600
#4 9602
#5 E200.
Batt reads 8.4v but starts all good. things turn on and off on their own. like push the horn and the lights turn off!!

sound like some sort of short to me but hard to figure out when I am in Adelaide lol
with these things running a CAN BUS system does it complicate things?

anyone have any issues like this or heard of it.

I've heard of the electrics going berko when the battery fails. Things like gauges working intermittently etc. (Steve aka Melbzetec had a similar problem a few months back i believe)

Mine used to run on 2 cylinders randomly when I started it, regardless of whether or not it had just been shut down or if it had been sitting for a week. I'd turn it off, start it again and it'd be fine.
I changed the battery in it a few months ago and it hasn't done it since.

If the battery is putting out less than 12V it's knackered anyway so it's worth a try to change it and see if it helps.

well at least the Batt should be under its own warranty.

having a look around the mondeo seem to be having similar issues with the battery

Thanks guys

Do you have a multimeter. Try getting the voltage off that instead of the dash cluster. Also check the voltage before and after starting, the alternator maybe screwed. In the few times where I've had to jump start my car (damn unswitched cig lighter) the wipers tend to go off by themselves.

told her to go and get battery checked as well as the connections cause it is fairly new something may have not been done up right. She tell me she has had no probs starting it other than things going off on their own after starting the car and the warning light coming on.
Alt now there's a thought.
I have to relay this by fone as she is in Darwin and I am in Adelaide.
I've not needed to jump our car yet (touch wood) even left the interior light on over night.

could be a bad battery? Check voltage on battery with car tuned off then with a few things on like lights.
could be a bad connection on the battery? Check the terminal connections and/or any plugs that are near the battery terminals
could be a bad earth? check the cabling from the battery that connects to the body.

its could be one of the 3.

If all else fails, whipping the hell out of it with a length of rubber hose does wonders.

Has no effect on the car at all, just makes you feel better.
