I was pretty sure that there were going to be apartments as part of the development. (Actually: I will be very close to that part of the city tomorrow so I will go there and have a look.)

The Lexus Dealership is now located in Swanston St. If you scroll up Elizabeth Street from the Main Road in Street View it appears parts of the Northern end of the old building are up for lease and Thier is now a Restaurant at the far north end of the old building. I read an article a while ago that the Toyota Dealership was going to relocate to Docklands but they must have changed their mind. |

I was there today and took pics on my camera but I have no clue how to post them. There is some vacant space on the ground floor; there is a supermarket at the north end on the ground floor.
I walked up the ramps to the top floor in the old building where there is a car wash and car spaces. On this top floor they have left the roof trusses exposed. I think the trusses would have been exposed before the redevelopment so I guess they made a point of leaving them that way. The trusses are timber with thick steel plates bolted on at the joins. (I have seen this truss construction before - at an old Ford factory - but it was probably common back then.) First floor is reception and car spaces. Service area must have been at basement level. I am pretty sure that the concrete ramps are not the original ramps but at the moment I can't find pics I took there a few years ago before the redevelopment. I didn't think to go inside to see if the turntable is still there ... will go back and have a better look. I am no heritage architect but I think the redevelopment has been done well. |
