'Transferring' historic rego

G'day guys, my XY is on historic plates, and I'm moving to Brisbane from Sydney. Has anyone done this and know the best way to go about everything? I assume I just can't transfer the rego over, would i be better off just crossing the border and keeping it on the nsw plates maybe? Cheers

If your move was permanent you would be allowed to drive the car to Brisbane but then you would have to cancel the rego and return the plates to the RMS. NSW historical plates are only available to a NSW resident with a NSW licence who belongs to an RMS approved club and cannot be transferred. Any unauthorised use of historic plates invalidates the registration.
I have no idea what the rules are in Queensland for historic vehicles, I would think the first step would be to join a suitable club.

Hi all this is not quite the same but here goes
I went to the QLD rego office and asked about selling my Triumph Stag
as its over thirty years old and on club rego
I was told I could transfer the club rego if I got a safety certificate
and sold the car to someone who is a member of a car club
if it was Joe Blow down the road I cant and I have to sell it unregistered
not sure how thats going to work for you coming from NSW
anyway Ive heard talk that one rego office worker
will give you an answer and another will give you a different answer
so who knows
not much help Im afraid

Moving to Qld you have 14 days to change your rego over.
I'm guessing in that time you will have to join a club and sort out your historic stuff. Many clubs don't allow newbies to use historic rego straight away either.
You may be better off organising full rego initially then work your way around the club situation.

Maybe cancel your historic rego, drive it up on a permit and then sort out rego when you're settled in Brisbane?

I sold a car on NSW Historic rego to a guy in Vic who wanted to drive it home.
I just filled in the log book (paper) showing him as the driver for the day and when he got home he posted the plates back to me.
Perfectly legal for you to nominate a driver on the paperwork.

Just legal I suppose, you could have ended up in the shyite if the buyer had not done the right thing. If he had driven about a bit and collected a few fines then destroyed the plates and log book, you and your club would have had a lot of questions to answer.

Much safer to deliver the car yourself.
