Lol what this guy gets away with, it's astonishing.

Plonk the equivalent of $60k down to have your car built in a car park under a tent?
Get it home and spend 3 weeks vacuuming out the dust.

The true believers will lap it up. Crazy times.

Seems so Ö and now Jag's iPace seems to deliver a car as capable as the Model X, for 20-30% less cost. Tesla will be banking there being an awful lot of true believers out there to buy the cars, because anyone making the decision objectively will likely be looking elsewhere now.

Wreeks of desperation. If the production line isn't working properly and the automation keeps stuffing up these cars must be absolute piles of junk. Wouldn't touch one with a barge pole.

I wonder how having to hire a heap more people to build the cars and cut back the automation will effect any chance of profitability? Not that Tesla even know what profits are.

VW, Jag, MB etc are launching, or in Jags case have just launched EV's, so if these Tesla's fall apart it's going to sink them, cause there are more EV alternatives from the big auto manufacturers coming onto market every few months. I know if I wanted an EV I would want it build in a proper factory by people with decades of experience building the things, not some johnny come lately's building them in a tent in a dusty carpark.

How long will it take the true believers to realise Musk is a snake oil salesman who talks complete shizzen.

I do wonder though if the other manufacturers would have responded as quickly and as competitively if Musk hadn't been pushing them.

If Tesla hadn't gotten the march on others, it may well have been the Fisker. But I think what Tesla did differently than others was to invest so heavily in the battery tech itself, realising that this was what would limit the useability of the cars. Of course, one can afford to be a visionary when spending other peoples money, and there's an awful lot of that underwriting this entire venture.

It's Jaguar who are showing the future with their i-Pace. Got a good product to market quickly (did they subcontract to Magnr Steyr?) and have shown what will happen as the majors electrify. Scale is coming.

As is scale in solar.

Sprintey, Jaguar are the tip of the spear.

They are all coming, and I think Tesla are behind the mark,

Its going to be epic Fordman. And I mean epic as in the thrill of living in a time of incredible change. What I'm hanging for is the price to come down for a runabout - figure I've got 3 years. So from the Jag's 120k to 20k. In that time, review how much extra solar I will need, up the inverter if needed, and wait for batteries to get cheaper. As they are doing. Its like a series of Moores Laws are converging.

What awaits is a bit of the freedom that the car originally promised - ability of movement - with very little of the fuel and maintenance cost. (Yes if its all connected are you really free, and yes the components of the car have an environmental cost).

It will be even more rad if you are young and living in a city - you will get transport on demand without even needing to have the cost of a car. For me though, surfboards dictate that I will be happy to keep being a private owner.

Why do these major car manufacturers with their decades of experience still have recalls?
Didn't VW rig their computers to pass emissions?

https://www.businessinsider.com.au/t...18-6?r=US&IR=T

Tesla CEO Elon Musk appears to have asked engineers at Teslaís factory in Fremont, California, to remove a standard brake test, called the brake-and-roll test, from the tasks Model 3 cars must complete to move through production, according to internal documents seen by Business Insider.

The test was apparently shut down before 3 a.m. on June 26, according to a person familiar with the matter. Itís unclear why this particular test was halted or for how long.

According to an industry expert, the brake-and-roll test is a critical part of the car manufacturing process, taking place during its final stages. The test ensures that the carís wheels are perfectly aligned and checks the brakes and their function by taking the vehicleís engine up to certain revolutions per minute and observing how they react on diagnostic machines.

Doug Field chief engineer resigned June 27th. Between the tent production line and this decision seems sensible

Eliminating what they can to get the production numbers up. Robbing peter to pay paul. What could possibly go wrong.

A little off topic but it illustrates to me just how far musk is willing to take his marketing stunts.

If they were waiting for Musk to deliver what he promised they would still be down there and in the cave.

Because like every Tesla customer, they'd be on a waiting list, with no hope of getting their hands on a product.

What is the likelihood that accidents involving pedestrians been hit are going to skyrocket when these things gather a bit of traction here? I have walked in front of those bloody Prius cars more than once in a shopping centre car park.

Yeah, but they flog our GT's and Sprints.

Sure, lap after lap, the cars we like are great but how many actually track their cars.

I took mine to a hill climb over the weekend and ran the fastest time for a stock standard car, which I might add, was 3 seconds faster than my fastest time in the GTF and 3.5 seconds faster than my Sprint! This is our Model S but the Model 3 will be up there!

Unless you've driven one, you have no clue how good these cars are.

Done plenty of trips to Brissy and Melbourne. Just have to make a couple of quick stops (~ 1 hour in total) to get to Melbourne. And it doesnt cost a cent!

I'm a Tesla Customer. Waited longer for my GTF and Sprint than I did with the Tesla.

The wait on a regular Falcon FGX was longer as well when they moved to a order system.

As is Mustang now or really any other Ford.

Model S about 3 months.

Model 3 hasn't been released yet. Bit like if you put in an order for the FGX in 2012/13 when they announced the model/closure.

What everyone forgets is that the model 3 was slated to begin production in 2019/2020. Elon, as he does, brought the timeline forward 2 years and pushed the envelope. Self inflicted but it's great to push the boundaries.

How long ago was Raptor announced to when we'll see it.

Over the weekend I ran the Tesla (27.41) in a Hillclimb... It was about 3.5 seconds faster than my GTF/Sprint (30.68/30.87) stock. They are great cars.

Given how much they changed hands, the Tesla was cheaper!

But in all honesty, the model 3 will be right up there performance wise.
