Default Ouch! Poor little Escort...

Drove my 2 door Escort the other day, didn't get far before I heard a huge bang, and then the engine was EXTREMELY loud...

When I stopped, I discovered why it was so loud...

The exhaust manifold is now a two-piece item...

Have a look for yourself:
Broken manifold pic

I think it was caused by the fact that when the new exhaust was installed ages ago, they didn't install it properly, and the weight of the entire exhaust system was being held in place at only two points, one of them being the exhaust manifold at the engine itself. This did not become apparent until the manifold broke the other day as shown in the picture above, and the entire exhaust dropped almost to the ground, so before I stopped it was actually scraping on the ground when I went over a bump.

I've learnt my lesson now, don't assume that because you've paid for someone to work on your car, that they've done the job properly. :

Yeah, extractors for Escorts are cheap, and not requiring a cat, a whole system doesn't cost more than 500 bucks for a good one.

Sucks that ithappened, would have been loud as, but consider it as an opportunity for improvement! out:

EXTREMELY loud is how I would describe it running like that! My ears were ringing no more then 5 seconds after it broke.

Yup, time for either extractors or a 2L conversion.

Anyone know where I can get extractors for a 1600 kent engine from?

you should be able to go to any half decent exhaust place and get a set put in for no more than 200 bucks unless your gonna put it in urself and are going for a second hand option, then all you can do is scour the wreckers for it

I've asked around before, exhaust places said they couldn't just buy a set of extractors to suit a 1600 kent engine, so they'd have to make custom ones, and for that they wanted somewhere in the region of $350, but didn't include fitting or the rest of the exhaust system...

Most older cars only with single systems had the exhaust weight held at 2 points, at the rear muffler and at the manifold.
proberly find your broke because its 30yrs old!
