Performance chips

Hello, i have a 2008 Tdci hatch and i have been very happy with it a friend told me that i should have it chipped as it will give me better fuel economy and better performance. I have done a little reading on this but to be honest find it all a bit confusing. So id be grateful for any feedback from Mondeo owners that have had their car chipped and their thoughts on post performance, what type of chip, etc. does this also void your warranty? grateful for any advice.

I would be amazed if Ford honoured a warranty claim for engine damage if they discovered that the ECU chip had been changed or remapped. So if you were to go ahead with such action, I would make sure the supplier of the chip or firm/company doing the remap covered you for engine damage for the remainder of the manufacturer's warranty.

But I'm wondering why you might want to do this? I'm getting 6.5 -7 l/100km routinely and diesel was 10c cheaper than unleaded yesterday

We have used these units on an Astra Diesel and a Mazda 6 diesel. Very impressive, they simply alter the signals going to the ECU. The only thing that changes is the fuel timing, fuel pressure and duty cycle of the injectors. The unit does not change anything in the ECU just the signals going to it, very easy to fit and remove in about 3 minutes. Diesels have no throttle valve or spark timing so these units are very safe, your only risk is to the transmission and drive shafts as the increase in torque may push these past their safety margin.

I think Code:red and Bluefin both do units for the oil burner mondeo

Hi Hodnic,
I have the same model an am currently looking a installing a DPChip (DieselPower) into my mondeo, i had the same concerns as you however DP give you warranty in writing that they will cover any damages to your motor cause by the Chip.
They take 5 mins to 10 mins to install and remove.If you are concerned before going to the dealer simply unplug it and reinstate to original condition.
They are available from most diesel specialists. cost Approx$700
