Default Read post method

Here is your chance to have your say.

The question revolves around which way you want the 'read threads/posts' to work.

Option 1 is the old way where they are considered to be read after a certain time (7 days) or after you have spent a certain amount of time in a forum session. The plus side is it requires no action on your part while the down side is that you actually can't use the new posts button unless it is the first thing you do when visiting.

Option 2 is the new way where they are only considered to be read if you actually visit the thread or if you select 'mark all forums read' off the quick links menu. The plus side is that you actually don't miss new threads while the downside is that you have to actually manually mark all read ore they stay unread. This can also optionally be set to automatic or manual (it is currently auto).

There is some discussion on the issue in this THREAD for those unsure about what has changed.

Cheers
Russ

.. and there-in is the problem. The voting was hardly conclusive given the number of votes. Ideally it could be coded (it no doubt can) so that you can choose your own method which is what I am currently looking at.

Cheers

100% agree! I didn't know of the poll above. I mean this in a friendly way, but maybe a greater cross-section of the forum community would have been more aware of the above poll if it was something that came up on the screen when logging in and asked to vote, kind of like the "site outage" notifications. Please don't take this as an anger filled response :-)

Ater getting used to it, I prefer the new way. You never miss a reply this way. Ultimately coding the option into vbulletin would be a winner if feasible.

I’d be interested in how the new way works. Perhaps if it was trailed for a week or two to see what people think.

Either way, I’m happy.

new way for me , I just found it to be intuitive , it is what I expected it would work like .

But given the way the poll is going ,

can I have the choice ?
is that too much of an ask ?

i like the new way cause while looking at the forum i often get called away or on phone and when i come back i can still see what was there. where as the old way it would be all gone and i dont have time to search through old threads to find it

lazy people cant even do 2 click at the end of their session so they start with new posts next time they log in
