Default Tickford Plastic Engine Cover (XR8)

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has thought of/tried/succeeded in returning their Tickford engine covers back to as-new condition?

Looking at it, it's painted plastic (the same yellow plastic that the genuine body kit bits are made of)

Does anyone have paint codes for the grey and silver paints Tickford originally painted the covers with, and the red used for the recessed lettering?

The main obstacle I'm seeing is how to keep/recreate the XR logo. I've seen other people paint their covers and lose the logo but I'd like to keep the factory look.

Also has anyone had a go at polishing their standard engine covers? Any nasty side effects?

You could get the XR logo airbrushed on then a nice clear coat over it all. Then you could polish it.

If anyone knows, it'd be appreciated....

they're getting hard to find in good nick man..
that's the only problem, and people know that..
hence the huge prices...
How much are you looking to pay for one I may know of one that has been repaired and going a bit cheaper...!!

I just sold mine for $100 (hoping that's reasonable - the buyer thought so), including postage back to Vic; hope RG didn't pay that much for it! It's in one piece, but is a bit scuffed. I have plans that do not include the cover.

thats not a bargain. thats reasonable... people get caught up in a flurry and pay too much, which leads people to believe its then worth it because X bought/sold it for that much...

in the end, something is worth what someone will pay...

i wont pay over 100 bucks for one personally. id rather look at my coil packs...

Thats the problem they are worth what ever some one wants to pay, I have a mint one in the shed but not for sale as I carnt replace it if necessary.. you only have to look at the stupid prices some of the T series and Momo stuff bring you could wreck out a T for twice its retail price ,,

Me too - nice red MSD coil packs, and with my planned black rocker covers, should give a nice bombers theme.

Or what someone wants to sell for - I wasn't fussed on price really; I'm happy with $80 nett (after postage) and Mark has himself an engine cover to smash next time he goes on a track day (oops, did that just give away the buyer's identity!). I did think of putting up for open bidding on eBay, but then I got the whole car for such a good price, I felt I should "share the love" with the forum members!

hehe yep agree with Whoosha as well - some people pay way too much and its a p off - believe me owning a T makes it far worse and you got to draw a line I know I do.
Even those XR8 engine covers would be getting low via Fraud hence people up the prices on ebay etc though I'm not a ebayer.
Hey I'd love to pay far less for everything but sometimes/somethings in our cars are getting harder and harder to get hold of so at times some owners are willing to pay more for a stock pile can't blame them.

IMO as I said the XR8 cover for $100 is cheap - compare to new price and now availability and thats how it goes......

I am allway's looking for another if I even happen to come across one, not to fussed though as mine is in imaculate condition anyway, it look's brand new still, I don't understand how they can become so dirty and wrecked, as I wash my engine bay everytime I wash the car and run a shamy over it, maybe that's why it look's brand new, cause I look after it.

Of course, Mr "Carn the Hawks" who lost to Sydney - read that again - SYDNEY! I'd rather lose to carlton by 12 goals than to Sydney by approx the same amount.

Agreed. But Sydney have cost the bombers in the past by margins as small as 1 point (twice, IIRC), so I hate them even more!

Back to engine covers............

I'm going to respray mine too, would love to find the actual paint code or match.

I would suggest the only way to properly restore one would be to respray as they're only usually let down by areas where the paint has faded or been worn off.

There is a paint shop in Cranbourne (Melb S.E.) that will match the colour and put it into pressure pack cans for around $25 a can.

The covers are fetching ridiculous money on ebay, I saw a NOS one go for $400 not long ago. As someone said, theyre worth as much as people are willing to pay.

Can anyone who gets the colors matched up report back and let us know how you went?
