Default All-New Ford Mondeo Delivers All-EcoBoost Petrol Powertrain and Frugal TDCi Diesel

New 149 kW 2.0-litre EcoBoost delivers 169 g/km CO2 and 8.2 L/100 km* fuel efficiency

The Mondeo hatch TDCi is a proven and frugal 132 kW 2.0-litre Duratorq TDCi engine that delivers 125 g/km CO2 and 5.1 L/100 km fuel efficiency, which is better than the Toyota Camry Hybrid, which is rated at just 5.2 L/100kms*

Assisting the aerodynamics of the all-new Mondeo TDCi are Active Grille Shutters

MELBOURNE, 8 Apr., 2015 – The all-new Ford Mondeo arrives in Australia with an all-EcoBoost petrol engine lineup, as well as a proven and frugal 2.0-litre turbo-diesel.

The 2.0-litre EcoBoost engine will be available in two states of tune – 149 kW in the Ambiente hatch and wagon and a higher performance 177 kW EcoBoost engine in the mid and high-series Trend and Titanium hatch and wagon.^

Both EcoBoost engines are mated to Ford’s SelectShift six-speed automatic while the 2.0-litre TDCi engine is standard with Ford’s PowerShift six-speed transmission.

The higher performing 177 kW EcoBoost engine is 30 per cent more powerful than the 135 kW 2.5-litre petrol Toyota Camry engine.

Customers seeking even better fuel efficiency can opt for the TDCi diesel, which develops 132 kW and delivers 125 g/km CO2 and 5.1 L/100km fuel efficiency in the hatch and 5.3 L/100km in the Ambiente and Trend wagon. At 5.1 L/100km, the Mondeo hatch TDCi fuel economy figure is better than the Toyota Camry Hybrid, which is rated at just 5.2 L/100kms*

The Mondeo TDCi delivers sub-130 g/km CO2 emissions and is supported by the addition of Auto-Start-Stop technology and Active Grille Shutters.

With cutting-edge EcoBoost power-trains that deliver performance without sacrificing fuel efficiency, as well as the option of an efficient turbo-diesel, Ford has delivered a driving experience Mondeo customers have come to expect.

Award-winning EcoBoost technology
EcoBoost engine technology is at the forefront of Ford’s push to deliver power-trains with the performance customers want with the fuel efficiency they didn’t expect.
EcoBoost power-trains are currently available across Ford’s Australian passenger car range and are currently available in Fiesta, Focus, EcoSport, Ford Kuga and Falcon.

Ford Motor Company's global EcoBoost engine family is the cornerstone of its plan to deliver high-volume, affordable, fuel-efficient vehicles that customers around the world both want and value. EcoBoost is also an integrated part of Ford’s global mid- and long-term sustainability strategy. Combined with advanced multi-speed transmissions, electric power steering, weight reductions and aerodynamic improvements, EcoBoost is helping Ford address the world’s energy challenges without sacrificing the joy of driving. The EcoBoost family of engines features direct petrol injection, turbocharging and twin independent variable camshaft timing to maximise combustion efficiency, resulting in fuel consumption and CO2 emissions reductions compared to conventional petrol engines with a similar power output. The core strategy behind EcoBoost is to downsize engine capacity so that larger naturally-aspirated engines can be replaced by much smaller units without sacrificing power output. A key advantage of the EcoBoost approach to downsizing is a petrol engine that uses less fuel and produces fewer emissions. When combined with the use of turbocharging and other powertrain technologies, it also delivers significantly improved torque and the performance of a larger capacity engine.

Enhanced diesel performance with Auto Stop-Start, Active Grille Shutters
The revised 2.0-litre TDCi diesel engine with Variable Nozzle Turbocharger technology that adjusts to optimise boost at different engine speeds, is offered to Mondeo customers with 132 kW delivering sub-130 g/km CO2 emissions.

The 2.0-litre TDCi features a revised engine block, new cylinder-head and fuel injection designs, and Ford’s lean NOX trap exhaust after-treatment system for even cleaner emissions.

Efficiency is enhanced with an Active Thermal Management System that improves warm-up times by supplying cooling to specific components on-demand to reach peak efficiency faster; and a variable oil pump that reduces parasitic losses by increasing oil pressure on-demand.

Auto-Start-Stop is introduced to the TDCi power-train on Mondeo for the first time.

Auto-Start-Stop is particularly useful in town or high-density urban areas, where it can cut fuel consumption by up to 10 per cent (urban cycle).

Also assisting the aerodynamics of the all-new Mondeo TDCi are Active Grille Shutters, which close at higher speeds to reduce drag and open again to reduce under-bonnet temperatures at lower speeds.

Why no mention of torque figures?

Auto stop start is xxxxx I hope it has an off button.I had Passat in UK and it drove me nuts until I found the off switch. I cannt see how it saves fuel/money or wear and tear on the starter motor etc...

The full technical specifications have been released separately.

Both EcoBoost engines deliver 345 Nm of torque at either 2700-3500 rpm (147 kW version) or 2300-4900 rpm (177 kW version).

The diesel delivers 400 Nm of torque at 2000-2500 rpm.

Cheers
Russ

TDI looks good, active shutter idea is nice too.

I agree with auto start/stop..I hope it can be disabled.

Why armt the bozos putting Ecoboost in Trend and Titanium wagons? It's not 2005 anymore, diesel is dead in mid sized cars.

Tdi dead? The torque is addictive and unless it revs and sounds awesome I couldn't care less about petrol options.

Tdci throttle response is woeful, hopefully the revisions rectify it.
Still doesn't fix the the power**** transmission
