Falcodore seating positions

Since there is so much discussion of the seating position of the falcon and commodore I decided to take a few measurement to compare them.

Both are base model utes.
Seats are all the way down and back.
Back rests are all the way against the rear wall.
Steering wheel is all the way up and towards the rear of the ute

From the measurements taken there is 60mm difference seat base to bottom of steering wheel between the two makes.

The Falcon Wheel needs to be able to go 1 notch higher.
Obviously having a higher Seating position will effect things, but either way there is also a 20mm from Wheel to Floor. There is the Notch.
Even 20mm would make a huge difference to Lanky people like me.

Pretty much, the odd thing I've found with Falcons, my mate's XR6 ute the seat base went lower, but in the company car Fairmont Ghia the seat base wouldn't go as low and was higher?

There is certainly some difference there because the sedan was awkward to get in/out of with clearance between seat base and legs but the ute, no worries?

I'm talking B series though, not FG.

Is there a difference between seats/seat bases with ute/sedan and Fairmont Ghia/XR6?

Well that's funny....I've been trying to get others to get some measurements like this for along time. No one normally cares...... Well done

But you can clearly see in these utes that there's more room between the seat and wheel aswell as you sit lower in the Holden.
But seeing as myself and other tall people I know shake their head when others complain about the falcon seating position, I'm convinced that those measurements are NOT the whole story.
I believe 'perception' of the car being more enclosed around you, aswell as things like a higher window sill and smaller window openings give an enhanced feeling of being IN the car more. Not to mention the fatter pillars.
My wife crossed the holdens off our list simply because she felt too encompassed and the outward vision was inferior to the falcons. She also has the seat at its highest position.

So considering you'd have to be very tall as well as be one of those that drives both a Holden and a ford so as to notice the difference more.....I'd say that leaves quite a minority that has a big issue with it! Maybe a poll would help. But being a ford forum that may not work!

One of the things I love about the FG is that the seat is nice and high and I can see all the way over the bonnet (I'm 5'9)

at 6 feet 2 and tuby, I much prefer the bf2 seating position to the most recent vf I drove.
especially as I dont feel like I am in a small car.

i was massively surprised at how close the measurements were. has anyone looked at what stops the fg's wheel going higher? i would love it to go 50mm higher, would then be the perfect fit for me

I'm 6'2, and have no trouble entering or exiting my fg sedan. I have the seat as low as it goes at the rear but the front tilted up to support my legs. Wheel is up as high as it goes and out as far as it goes, which also adds height due to the angle it comes out.

I think some problems are caused by how people get in. I always go left leg first. It appears to me some people go bum first and then try to swivel their legs around. I can see how this method would have clearance issues with the wheel.

Exactly how mine is except I'm 5'10" so the wheel is only 1/2 way up.

And I enter the same way.

Even with the seats all the way down I feel like I sit lower in my BA2 than our BF2. I like the lower position better

I don't have a problem entering my FG, but being a manual, my left leg hits the bottom of the steering wheel, forcing you into an abnormal angle required to press the clutch in. I'm 6', seat base low front and back steering wheel in the highest position and pulled all the way out.
