Falcon better than last month. Territory is a bit worrying as not much has changed on the new model.

Holden beaten by Hyundai and Mazda for the month. I think they have more to worry about than Ford in the coming years.

They sold well over 2000 Commodores in Nov. So much for big rear wheel drive sedans don't sell......lmao They do sell when they are built with competitive tech and competitive pricing with competitive marketing and unashamed advertising. Where is Focus ?? |

If you want a Corolla or Mazda 3, now is the time to bargain as both are offering top deals in order claim the highest selling car for 2014

Fair enough - yes. In the coming years that top 10 is likely to be unrecognisable and change 10 times over. The biggest loser may well be Toyota and Mazda as the onslaught of the Koreans continues. Be interesting to see what lies outside the top 10. |

I see ASXs on the road EVERYWHERE, they must be the in thing right now. I must say the latest facelift with LED DRLs and machined alloys always makes me look twice.

Commodore sold over 2000 units and its competition sold 400 - In what universe is that bad ? It was the 5th best selling vehicle in November and YTD - its bucking the trend that Ford are using as justification for poor sales of the Falcon. Just sayin. And to add to that - @ 30% of those commodore sales are V8's !! So @ 700 - 800 V8 Commodores per month in sedan and wagon are rolling out. Yes Commodore will eventually drop - but gee - they are making hay while the sun shines. |

At 2000 they would be losing money on every one they sell. Just like Ford are with 1000 Falcons and Territories, difference is Ford is spending nothing on developing self parking and all the other gizmos that the VF has, so they will probably lose a lot less.

In a business that requires 10's of thousands sales a month (locally and internationally) to keep a factory open, the commodore is just as defunct as the falcon. The mere fact that more commodores are being sold than falcon does not mean Holden are making hay whilst the sun shines, they are simply buying hay at $50 a bale and selling It at $40 a bale. If they were making hay, they would keep making it post 2017. |

Remember that GM spent a lot less than Ford did locally in having to develop local engines for their 6 and 8 - they basically used crate engines didnt they ? |

Yes the V8 is a crate engine. As opposed to the Holden V6, a miniscule amount has been spent on the Falcon 6. FPV developed the V8 so this has also cost Ford very little.

And i suppose in the coming years, the Holden offerings will remain the same will they? Do some of us on this forum know the deepest secrets of Holden and Ford's product planning department? Get a grip please!

How many types of vehicles are sold in Australia? It may not be possible to turn a profit from manufacturing locally but Holden is still out performing many others in sales volume. Someone must like it. |

Hertz, Avis, Govcos, Police, Telstra they are all buying Commodores at national fleet pricing.
I would love to see the break up of sales between Gov Fleet, National Fleet, Small Business and Private Buyer.

63 manufacturers to sell 1.1 million vehicles per year. does not make economic sense. America has just 30 manufacturers to sell 16 million vehicles per year. we need a rationalisation of manufacturers selling in Australia so that the motor vehicle industry and all supporting business may be able to grow and prosper rather than being marginal. The new car franchise as we know it in Australia is unsustainable in its current state and if left to continue we will see many more dealers close than the few we have witnessed in the previous month.
