Default 2012 focus 2.0 diesel LW fuel pump failure help pls

Hi there, i have serviced this car with ford from day one.
At 128,000 k they tell me i have a diesel fuel pump failure and requires 4 new injectors at a cost of $ 5,200 .The car is worth about 7k so i have basically written off a new car.
Can anyone help me find someone who can fix it properly for less? Seems like highway robery . Also paid $1800 for a Ford for the a extended manufacturers warranty (@ 60,000km) expired seven weeks before the Failure.
Can anyone help do it for less?

I'd be changing dealerships. Hard to see why a fuel pump failure is going to also require the replacement of all injectors although the DTC's thrown by a fuel pump failure often include injector ones.

You haven't said whether LW1 or LWII (2012 being the changeover year) and the pumps are not only different, they are in different places!

Replacement pumps are available (they are a Delphi unit) from Sparesbox or from specialist diesel suppliers for $500-750 or they can be refurbished.

On LWII, my understanding is that replacement is a tank out job as the pump and filter are an integral unit mounted on the top of the tank. The Ford SRT for that job is 4.5 hours, The LW1 doesn't require tank removal and is set as a 3 hour job.

Even if you need a set of injectors, they are a Siemens unit can refurbished ones can be had for ~$150 each,

Cheers
Russ

Don't buy a diesel vehicle. They cost two times more 2 service and they are going out of fashion. In 3 years time, it will be impossible 2 buy a diesel. And plus, and this is a big plus, they kill people.

Your LW will have a Delphi pump and injectors, not Siemens.

You can get a new pump from europe for something over $1k, a set of 4 injectors for something over $1k. Expect to pay more locally.

Your (Peugeot/Ford-built) DW10BTED4 engine should be pretty reliable, as it has been evolved and sold in significant numbers, in quite a number of Ford/Peugeot/Citroen/Volvo etc. cars. (e.g. a ****load of Mondeos, and as far as I know the Mondeo diesels are decently reliable if maintained properly (check the mondeo forum))

I'm curious about your failure. Did you put petrol or water through it? Was something done wrong at your 120,000km service?

Is there reason the repairer requires injector replacement? Or is injector replacement a precaution against debris from the failed pump, being lodged in them?

Assuming there is no misdiagnosis and injector replacement is genuinely required, the quote you were given, does not sound too bad.

Hi Gumby123, no petrol put through it as i go to same petrol station evey week.
The injector replacement was a precautionary measure and was recommended by the dealer.
I’ve found a company that seem competent who offer a refurbished pump and will also re diagnose for a small fee.
Thanks for all your help

Which LW did you have?

I have a DW10C engine and mine's a MK1.

gumby123, you mention the DW10BTED4, is that what they went with in the MK2s?

Yeah, I found a dealer that wanted to replace to O2 sensors on his Focus because they didn't know which one was faulty. I connected my equipment, found out exactly which one was faulty and we did the job ourselves...

Internationally what we call a LW, is a focus Mk3. Seems the LZ is known as a focus Mk3.5.

This guy runs a fleet of mondeos both the latest and the previous model. You should recognise the engine here as the same as in your LW diesel. Although he doesn't run automatics, he has good things to say about these engines.

Stefcio I just checked Wikipedia and you're right about the Dw10C designation.

BTW I found your YouTube video useful, in locating the EGR blanking spot under the inlet manifold. I haven't carried it out yet.

If the mechanical pump fails, it sends schrapnel through the injectors hence why they need replacing.

No worries, glad it helped. It's pretty easy if you have a blanking plate that you can slide on by loosening the bolts a bit. I found that getting the bolt out is a bit of a pain preventing it from dropping into the engine bay. I accidentally ordered the wrong blanking plate and figured it probably wasn't meant to be so I left it alone.
