Default Mr K-Tel is Dead

But surely there must be more; he always promised more; there was always the set of steak knives too.

Hello,

I was reading about him some time ago, and he would market an item which cost 20 cents and sell it for $2. There would have been very few households that didnt have a KTel product in the 60s or 70s.

More here http://www.ktel.com/classics.php including their old TV adverts; they even sold a electronic ignition module.

Yes we still have a K-tel Record Selector at mum's house and it still remembers to stop at the slot you took the record from.

Also about a dozen of the various pop compilation albums from the '70's like Bobby Dazzler, Dynamic Hits, Electrifying Hits, Explosive Hits and so on.

Wow memories have just come flooding back.

This was one of my favourite records for a while

Hello,

Hanimex was a similar type of company. Aussie, but an international player.

I was Hanimex's first apprentice toolmaker when they had a small office in Sussex Street, Sydney. In later years they moved to a huge purpose built factory complex in Brookvale. Started by Jack Hannes, Hanimex was a hugely successful company. If you're interested you can read about it here ... http://www.ideaaustralia.com/jack-hannes-1923-2005/

Hello,

I found the same article while looking last night ! I went to a large Hanimex place in North Sydney many years ago.

my favourite when I was a kid.
20 great trucking songs.
mainly cause it had the "Moving On" W900 Kenworth on the back cover.

I'm sure I've still got it.

I would lay money that there wouldn't be more than only a few houses in an average town that didn't have something from K-Tel somewhere in them in the 1970's, and even now they pop up in the most unexpected places.

On that website that lists all their products from over the years, I love how at the bottom of a page it doesn't just have a button to click on for pages 1 and 2, etc, it also says "But wait! There's MORE!"...

Matter of fact I still have the "Bottle Cutter" that my late father ordered back in the late seventies. Still works perfectly, still in its box.

You can't help thinking Offer Shlomi a.k.a "Vince Offer" of the Schticky ads was trying to copy Phil Kives see: http://mentalfloss.com/article/81965...-shamwow-story
