Cool G220 Conversion to 335kw Supercharged.

Hi,
Wanting to convert my 2003 G220 5.4lt to a 335kw supercharged engine.
Does anyone know if this can be done and what parts are required, eg: gearbox, ECU, BCM etc...
What isssues are there in doing this?
This was a project my Dad wanted to do before he died and I am now wanting to make it a reality.

Cheers. Mark.

Now that is COOL !

If you're looking to swap it for a BOSS 335, make sure you get the gearbox with it because I know that the Tremec TR6060 had the GT500 twin-plate clutch and the ZF auto had extra clutch packs in them... oh, and a set of 275's on the rears !

Saw recently that you can get a brand new Miami for $20k from Ford. Given that wreckers are selling them for around $15k+, might be worth getting the new motor if you're going down this road.

HP26 ZF is the one you want or the TR6060. Manual G220 would be awesome.

I'd expect you to have a budget of around $30k (might be more). Also, might be simpler to run the engine on a haltech or something such. Let the stock computer run the rest of the car and the haltech do the engine management.

If it was me I'd be approaching a company who can provide technical advice. I'd be keeping an eye on wrecks to see what they are worth to use for parts. It will be a very cool car.

I have G220. I would also consider suspension and brake enhancements.

I agree its cool, but unless you score a cheap donar car you may aswell buy a 5.0 GS and pay to retrim the interior.

If its all about being unique then go for it.

$42000 to convert a Ranger with a crate coyote or $38k with a low km second hand setup through Killa Kustoms.

yeah thats nuts, it may be a fair price but its big coin. Potentially kill your resale etc although maybe not such an issue on a G220.

If you can do the labour yourself then thats another story.

May need to look at engineering/ADR's aswell.

I think that might be due to making sure the traction control systems, DSC, etc have to all work together.

Don't have those issues with the G220. Haltech engine mgmt.

Interestingly, the Miami is cheaper or similar priced locally than I've seen for a Coyote as a crate motor!

Cheers,
Will be doing most of the work myself and a mate is helping me with the engineering side of things.
Thinking about a manual, depending on the donor car.
Not up with new engines and such.. comparisons between the Miami and Coyote? Any real benefits??

Miami is our version of the coyote with the supercharger. Coyote is the engine used in the Mustang without the blower. The new version of the engine is up on capacity from 302 to 307 cu in (4951cc to 5038cc in our money).

Miami also got reviewed compression, the supercharger, etc but only got VCT on intake whereas the coyote has VCT on both.

Basic difference, Miami - Supercharged - Aussie built and designed.

Coyote - US engine. Revs happily to 7400 and is one of the best NA engines out there.

Miami is based on the GEN1 Coyote block with 9.25:1 compression (down from 11:1) and FPV engineered the internals (pistons, crankshaft, accessory drive, sump, exhaust manifold and Harrop HVT 1900 supercharger)

Both the Coyote and Miami share the same firing order (1-5-4-8-6-3-7-2)

The BOSS 315 (GS) and BOSS 335's (GT) are the same motor with a different tune and their real world outputs are around 340kW and 380kW respectively. Torque is also underrated with 650Nm on tap for the GT

With a mild tune, the Miami puts out around 450kW (~6800rpm) at the motor and 700+Nm

In comparison, the latest GEN3 Coyote (FN Mustang) has high-pressure direct injection and low-pressure port fuel injection, 12:1 compression, Plasma Transfer Wire Arc cylinder liners for a slight increase in bore size (93mm vs 92.2mm), new heads and camshafts and four knock sensors (up from two)

Real world output is around 350kW and the Tickford tune takes it up to 400kW and 630Nm so not as torquey as the supercharged Miami but they still make solid power at over 7000rpm

Hope this helps mate..
