Default Mk2 Cortina Perana / Savage in Australia?

H guys,
Just curious if any of the gurus there know if either the Perana or Savage Mk2 Cortinas were able to be special ordered through FORD back in the day?
Cheers,
Rob.

Not in Australia. They weren't a Ford product but from 'tuning houses' Like Tickford to us... The savages were made by Jeff Uren in the UK and the Perena from Basil Green in Sarf Efrica.

Yep - but I heard a rumour you could 'special order' one through Ford Australia...? Looking for evidence to support or refute!

This discussion maybe able to help. As far as its known there was no V6/ savage style cars built here although this car did come up.
Are you looking at one?
Tell tale signs of a good conversion would be revised suspension points, seam welding and bracing. Its not just a matter of whacking a big engine in a small car. The Perana/ Savage/ Broadspeed cars were quite bespoke.
There was a Perena for sale a while back in Aus, listed around 20k and gone now. I thought that was pretty well priced given its rarity and performance.

It's more a case of legislation. If you could buy the Perana/Savage through Ford back in the day it changes the vehicle mass I can use to justify a v8 conversion in my Mk2. At the moment 3.7L is my biggest capacity (I trial-fitted a Rover 3.5 and wasn't happy with it).

I believe (/have read) the Mk2 Cortina Savage used the Essex 3 litre.

Mk2 Perana Cortina were V6 Essex.
See also http://perana.org/cortinamk2.asp

Capri Perana and Granada Perana were V8. (Std engine type +1 size approach)

Just Google it...... and see what turns up. Question must have been asked before.

...just put a Cosworth in it. It'll be easier, go just as fast and actually stop and steer around a corner. You'll be able to rego it too.

That's one option. But it doesn't answer the whole question
